Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Aram Velazquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lewis Hicks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Lewis Hicks! The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Roger Salmon and Micheangelo Fripello.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Velazquez misses with a double jab.
Velazquez closes the distance looking to clinch so Hicks counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Hicks is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Velazquez takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Velazquez stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Hicks to get to his feet. Velazquez decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Hicks looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Hicks is not content to let Velazquez control the position. Velazquez has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Velazquez looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Hicks with a short hammerfist. Velazquez lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Velazquez seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Hicks escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Velazquez gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Aram Velazquez overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Velazquez wants to control from the top but Hicks keeps moving. Hicks is looking for a triangle but Velazquez pushes his legs off easily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hicks has his foot on Velazquez's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Velazquez works his way back into a safe position though. Hicks working for a triangle but Velazquez defends it easily.
