PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Zack Fantana (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Murray (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Zack Fantana! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Mark Murray! The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, James Atkins and Chris Edwards.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Fantana moves forwards but Murray connects with a nice, crisp jab. Murray throws a jab when Fantana was well out of range. Fantana takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Fantana avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Murray takes a swing at Fantana's ribcage but misses. Fantana moves to clinch but Murray breaks away and Murray counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Fantana's guard now. Fantana really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Fantana utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Murray trying to control but Fantana is working from the bottom. Fantana knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Murray on the ground. Murray looking to pass the guard. Fantana wants to get back to his feet but Murray is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Murray slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Murray wants to lay and pray for a moment but Fantana keeps working. An elbow from Murray crashes against the mat.
Murray lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Murray wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Fantana, who protects the arm well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fantana tries to escape but Murray is in control. Murray has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Fantana! Murray trying to control but Fantana is having none of it. Murray throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage. Fantana in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Fantana is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Murray unloads with some shots from mount but Fantana bucks and avoids them well.
Fantana has left one of his arms exposed and Murray doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Fantana screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Mark Murray! Mark Murray decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
