PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Luke Miran (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mati Matt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Luke Miran!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mati Matt!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Ryoma Takatsuka and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Miran enables Matt to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Miran manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Matt trying to control the position from guard on top but Miran is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Mati Matt hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Matt shoots in and bounces Miran off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Miran is breathing heavily.
Matt wanted to stand there but Miran had control of the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Miran keeping moving, preventing Matt from controlling successfully.
Matt is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Mati Matt wasn't active enough on the ground.

Miran gets caught napping as Matt dives in and scores a takedown. Miran manages to retain guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Matt working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Miran has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Matt has passed into side control.
Matt looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Miran is avoiding damage well.
Matt wants to lay and pray for a moment but Miran keeps working.

Matt stands up and beckons Miran to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Miran feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Miran drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Matt dives on top into guard.

Luke Miran has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Matt fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Miran has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Matt scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mati Matt dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!



Matt dives in and scores a takedown into Miran's guard.
Matt trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Matt gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Matt tries to clinch there but Miran circles away.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Matt moves in looking to clinch but Miran pushes him off.
Miran shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Matt as he jumps to the side.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Miran will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Miran tries to keep at a distance but Matt has taken the fight into the clinch.

Miran goes for a takedown in the clinch but Matt prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Luke Miran. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Matt is trying to force a seperation but Miran has the dominant position.

Matt works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Matt scoring with punches to the head and body.
Matt pushing down on Miran's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Matt lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Matt decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Matt closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Miran's guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Mati Matt was stalling too much, according to the referee.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Miran is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Matt has escaped the position, nice work there.

Miran goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Matt rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Miran's guard! Nice work there by Matt!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Matt trying to control but Miran is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mati Matt showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! And we move into the final round!



Miran gets caught flat footed, as Matt shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Matt wants to control from the top but Miran keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Matt rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Miran moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Miran gets caught napping as Matt dives in and scores a takedown. Miran manages to retain guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Matt works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Matt trying to control the action but Miran is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Mati Matt wasn't active enough on the ground.

Matt closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Mati Matt has got the better of the ground game so far.
Matt is just content to waste time from the top position. Miran takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Matt throws a big elbow that misses.
Matt wants to stand and escape but instead Miran has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Miran distracts Matt with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Matt controls Miran momentarily but Miran frees himself.

Miran stands and steps away. Matt gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Miran shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Matt's guard.

Miran drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Matt manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Miran has Matt in his guard.

Matt wants to stand but Miran is controlling his posture from full guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Miran is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mati Matt comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Matt has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3 rounds of action, we go to the scorecards for a decision.
