The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stinger tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Kawajiri paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Kawajiri throws a right hand that Stinger ducks under and follows up with a left that Stinger also avoids with ease.
Stinger fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kawajiri avoids it really well and circles away.
Stinger is trying hard to land a takedown here. Kawajiri sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Stinger misses with a takedown attempt - Kawajiri sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Freddy Stinger. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kawajiri stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kawajiri wants it to stay on the feet.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Stinger thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Kawajiri really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Stinger. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Kawajiri is pulling down on Stinger's head. It's preventing any offense from Stinger, at least for the moment.

Stinger drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Stinger jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Stinger has gone for a leg lock! Kawajiri slips out almost immediately though and dives into Stinger's guard.

Kawajiri got a little sloppy there for a moment and Stinger has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kawajiri has managed to get both his arms back between Stinger's legs - danger averted.

Stinger wants to improve his position but Kawajiri is controlling well.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Kawajiri in particular looking to stall.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Kawajiri is pressing down on Stinger's thigh, looking to free his foot. Stinger is holding on for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Stinger really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Stinger has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Kawajiri has passed into side control.
You can see the frustration on Stinger's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Stinger is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Kawajiri must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Kawajiri is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
