Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mauricio Shogun! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dean Broll! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Thiago Cunha and Leandro Rodrigues.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shogun fails miserably with a takedown attempt. A momentary lapse in concentration from Shogun enables Broll to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Shogun manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Broll keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Shogun's head. Broll throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Broll is working Shogun over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Broll in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Broll pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Shogun is keeping the position for now. Broll throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Shogun keeping moving, preventing Broll from controlling successfully. Broll missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Shogun looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Shogun has momentary wrist control but Broll slips an elbow through the middle. Broll tries to free his leg and advance position but Shogun is retaining full guard. Shogun is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Broll defends well. Shogun avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Broll pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Shogun is keeping the position for now. Broll landing with the ground and pound. Broll working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Broll is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Broll throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Shogun works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Broll throwing strikes from guard but Shogun blocks nicely. Broll with a nice head shot there. Shogun preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Shogun looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Broll is defending well. Shogun quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Broll has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Shogun celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
