Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
13 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Bruce Darnell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Victor Ortiz!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Paulsen Ambrosius and Daniel Blasius.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Darnell shoots in and drives through. Ortiz sprawls well.
Darnell shoots for a takedown but Ortiz saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Darnell takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Darnell moves out of range of the strikes.
Darnell tries to score a power double leg takedown but Ortiz sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Darnell somewhat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bruce Darnell. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Ortiz lands a glancing blow to the side of Darnell's head.
Darnell shoots in for a double leg but Ortiz sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Darnell ducks under a wild hook from Ortiz.
Ortiz comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Darnell closes this distance looking for a takedown but Ortiz circles away.
A big right from Ortiz misses.
Ortiz throws a right hand that misses
and Darnell counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Darnell looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Ortiz wants to control the action here but instead Darnell manages to pass to full mount!
Darnell jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Ortiz manages to avoid the submission attempt.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Ortiz gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ortiz can't escape the position.
A nice elbow there by Darnell.
Darnell is working for a guillotine from mount but Ortiz frees his head quite easily.
Darnell scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Ortiz reaches up and pulls Darnell towards him, trying to control the position. Darnell manages to get a guillotine from the mount though! This could be big trouble for Ortiz! Ortiz tries to roll over - now Darnell is on the bottom but the guillotine is really deep and Ortiz has to tap out! Great work there by Darnell!

After winning the bout, Bruce Darnell thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
