PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alejandro Zapata (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ray Trainer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Zapata comes into the arena with Tres Delinquentes blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alejandro Zapata!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ray Trainer!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Trevor Gratis and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Trainer gets the takedown into side control.
Zapata tries to bench press Trainer off him but Trainer keeps the position.
Trainer wants to lay and pray for a moment but Zapata keeps working.
Trainer is putting a hurting on Zapata here, landing some big shots from side control.
Zapata tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Trainer working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Trainer swings around for an armbar but Zapata sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Trainer's guard.

Zapata drops back looking for a leg! Trainer is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Trainer manages to kick Zapata off! Zapata jumps back into Trainer's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Zapata wants to pass the guard but Trainer is keeping the position.

Trainer is looking to stand up but Zapata isn't so interested in that idea.
Trainer is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Trainer kicks Zapata off and gets to his feet.
Trainer fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Zapata looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Zapata throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Zapata comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Zapata sizes up Trainer with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Zapata throws a jab when Trainer was well out of range.
A jab lands there for Trainer.

Zapata gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Trainer is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Zapata is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Trainer wants to control from the top but Zapata keeps moving.
Trainer throws a big right hand that misses.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Trainer got a little sloppy there for a moment and Zapata has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Trainer has managed to get both his arms back between Zapata's legs - danger averted.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Zapata uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Trainer.

Zapata is looking to slow Trainer down with leg kicks.
Zapata throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Zapata connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Trainer slips under a jab.
Trainer ducks right into an uppercut from Zapata.
Zapata moves out of range as Trainer strikes.
Trainer blocks a low kick nicely.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Trainer wants to control but Zapata is keeping busy and won't allow it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Ray Trainer will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Zapata swings for the body but Trainer moves out of range.

Trainer dives in and grabs Zapata's left leg, looking for a takedown. Zapata pushes down on Trainer's head and hops out.

Trainer throws out a loose jab but Zapata uses good head movement to avoid it.

Trainer avoids the body shot from Zapata.
Trainer is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Zapata bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Trainer shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Zapata as he jumps to the side.

Zapata stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Zapata wants it to stay on the feet.

Zapata tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Trainer paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Trainer cracks Zapata with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

Trainer lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

Zapata drives through with a takedown into Trainer's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Alejandro Zapata.

Trainer takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
The fighters circle momentarily. Zapata darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.


Trainer is rocked!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Zapata steps in with a hook that catches Trainer right on the chin and knocks him to the floor! Zapata follows him down with more strikes and that's all she wrote! Trainer looks absolutely devastated.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:31 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Alejandro Zapata!
A relieved looking Alejandro Zapata thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
