Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Dangerous Jim McCarthy! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Luke Miran! The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Josh West and Micheangelo Fripello.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A shot to the liver by McCarthy. Beautiful body shot. Dangerous Jim McCarthy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Miran looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! McCarthy throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Miran. McCarthy shoots in and bounces Miran off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. McCarthy engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. McCarthy stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Miran swivels though and keeps the full guard. McCarthy throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Miran works some decent striking defense from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. McCarthy throwing strikes from guard but Miran blocks nicely.
That's one minute gone in the round. Miran controls McCarthy momentarily but McCarthy frees himself. McCarthy throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Miran works some decent striking defense from the bottom. McCarthy has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. McCarthy controlling from the top position. McCarthy thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. McCarthy postures up in Miran's guard and throws a big left but Miran blocks it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. McCarthy gets to his feet - Miran follows without any prompting. McCarthy works over Miran's head and body with a nice combination. McCarthy looking for a takedown here - he's got it. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! McCarthy pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Miran is keeping the position for now. McCarthy postures up in Miran's guard and throws a big left but Miran blocks it. McCarthy trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
That's three minutes gone in the round. McCarthy postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. McCarthy in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. McCarthy gets to his feet. Miran looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! McCarthy throws out a powerful jab. McCarthy gets a double leg takedown into Miran's guard. McCarthy stands and steps away. Miran gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Miran avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Nice straight punches there by McCarthy. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of McCarthy. McCarthy shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
That's four minutes gone in the round. This has been an exciting period of action! McCarthy trying to control the position from guard on top but Miran is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. McCarthy working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. McCarthy advances to half guard. McCarthy lands with a punch from half guard. McCarthy not doing much here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. McCarthy winds up and cracks Miran with a swinging punch to the side of the head. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Dangerous Jim McCarthy dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
McCarthy gets a double leg takedown into Miran's guard. McCarthy decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. McCarthy moves into the clinch. McCarthy decides to pull guard. McCarthy working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Miran doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Miran manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. McCarthy is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Miran stops McCarthy from standing up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Miran tries to free his leg and advance position but McCarthy is retaining full guard. McCarthy has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Miran can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. McCarthy tries to land a sweep but no joy. McCarthy trying to keep a closed guard but Miran is proving a slippery customer.

We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if McCarthy tries to get out of the position. McCarthy is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. McCarthy is controlling the pace.

That's three minutes gone in the round. McCarthy stops Miran from getting back to his feet.
McCarthy throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Miran on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. McCarthy takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Miran keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. McCarthy wants to take a breather but Miran is having none of it.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Dangerous Jim McCarthy. McCarthy lands a glancing blow to the side of Miran's head. McCarthy moves into the clinch. A frustrated look appears on McCarthy's face as he tries to break the clinch. A short right from McCarthy. Miran wants a takedown but no success here.
McCarthy ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. McCarthy no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Miran tries to free his leg and advance position but McCarthy is retaining full guard. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Miran thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Miran won't allow McCarthy to sweep him here. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

McCarthy shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Miran napping and manages to drive through into side control! McCarthy misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Both fighters are breathing heavily. Miran avoids any damage from the ground and pound of McCarthy. The strikes coming from McCarthy are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sloppy strikes there by McCarthy. Miran prevents McCarthy from moving into mount. McCarthy is working to tighten is grip on Miran's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Miran has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but McCarthy is really squeezing tight and eventually Miran passes out! McCarthy breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
