Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mike OMalley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leo Vieira (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mike OMalley has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mike OMalley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Leo Vieira!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Micheangelo Fripello and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

OMalley takes the fight into the clinch.
Vieira tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. OMalley smiles and moves away.

OMalley gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Vieira takes a shot to the head.
Vieira wants to take the fight to the mat but OMalley manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Vieira fails to pull guard.
Mike OMalley has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Leo Vieira.
Vieira tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. OMalley just stands there and leans against the cage.
OMalley wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
OMalley tries to circle away but Vieira has him pinned against the cage.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Vieira manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

OMalley drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Vieira dives on top into guard.
Vieira working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Vieira accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

OMalley working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Vieira doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Vieira manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

OMalley is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

OMalley keeping full guard, as Vieira tries to pass.
Vieira trying to control but OMalley is working from the bottom.
Vieira must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Vieira passes OMalley's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Vieira tries to pass the half guard into mount. OMalley knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

OMalley is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Vieira pulls his head out easily.

Vieira is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Vieira seems to be looking for submissions.

OMalley is pressing down on Vieira's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
OMalley keeping full guard, as Vieira tries to pass.
Vieira throws an elbow that misses. OMalley uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Vieira's guard. Nice move by OMalley!

OMalley is looking for a triangle but Vieira pushes his legs off easily.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Vieira passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Vieira thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

A close round but Leo Vieira will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



OMalley decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Vieira wants to get back to full guard.

OMalley is looking for a kimura but Vieira is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for OMalley to get the leverage.
Vieira has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. OMalley is working away from the top position though.

OMalley is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Vieira still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Vieira has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

Vieira tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Vieira has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

OMalley avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Vieira.
Leo Vieira has got the better of the ground game so far.
OMalley is trying to improve his position.

Vieira looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
OMalley tries to improve position but can't.
Vieira works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
OMalley manages to work his way to half guard, despite Vieira's best efforts.

Vieira is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Vieira is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
OMalley tries to roll over but Vieira keeps him under control.

That was a close second round but I would say that Mike OMalley will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!



Vieira moves into range and clinches up with OMalley.
OMalley is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Vieira decides to pull guard.

OMalley drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Vieira dives on top into guard.

OMalley is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Vieira defends well.

OMalley looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

OMalley has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Vieira can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Vieira looking to sit in guard and control but OMalley gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
OMalley might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

OMalley looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Vieira has picked OMalley up and slammed him! OMalley can't keep hold of the triangle and Vieira manages to pass to side control!

Vieira is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, OMalley has escaped the position, nice work there.

Vieira working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
OMalley is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Vieira's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

OMalley looking for submissions off his back.
Vieira moves nicely into side control.

The referee asks Vieira politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Vieira prefers to stall for the moment though.
Vieira misses with the ground and pound.
OMalley tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Vieira wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Vieira is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but OMalley is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
OMalley is not content to let Vieira control the position.
OMalley is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Vieira off and has taken his back!

Vieira breaks OMalley's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Vieira wants to pass the guard but OMalley is keeping the position.

OMalley has his foot on Vieira's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Vieira works his way back into a safe position though.
Vieira stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. OMalley swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Vieira lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Leo Vieira comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Vieira has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
