PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brian Serrano (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Todd Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nelson has chosen 'Let the Bodies hit the floor' as his entrance music. On his way into the cage it seems that Brian Serrano has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Brian Serrano seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brian Serrano!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Todd Nelson!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, John Kavanagh and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nelson throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Serrano tries to clinch up but Nelson circles away and keeps his distance.
Serrano shoots in but Nelson avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Nelson scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Serrano wants to get back to full guard but Nelson has passed into side control.
Serrano is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Serrano could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Nelson trying to control but Serrano is having none of it.
Nelson prevents Serrano from getting the reversal.
Serrano throwing hammer fists to the chest of Nelson. What's that going to do exactly?
Nelson can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Serrano is looking to escape.

Nelson is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Serrano.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Serrano lands a decent elbow from side control.

Serrano decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Nelson clinches up against the cage.
Nelson on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Serrano digs a right hand into Nelson's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Nelson's gas tank.
Serrano lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
Serrano looking to throw knees to the head but Nelson is blocking nicely.
Serrano throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Nelson blocks it with crossed arms.

Nelson with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Serrano tries to pull guard but Nelson won't allow it.
Nelson wants to break free but Serrano has control.
Serrano digs a right hand underneath Nelson's ribcage. Nelson let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Nelson is pressed up against the cage. Serrano has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Nelson down to the mat. Nelson avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brian Serrano. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Horrible takedown by Serrano or perhaps it was just good defense by Nelson which made him look bad.
Nelson throws a right and a left that Serrano avoids nicely.
Serrano looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Nelson is fending him off so far but Serrano persists. Nope, Nelson circles away and we're back to standing.

Serrano shoots for a double leg takedown but Nelson sprawls well. He's pushed Serrano's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Nelson looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Serrano clinches but Nelson breaks the clinch
and Nelson counters with a left and a right that stings Serrano.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Nelson lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Serrano moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Nelson throws a nice inside leg kick.
Nelson misses with a head kick.
Serrano fails with an attempt to clinch.
Nelson fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Serrano drives through with a takedown into guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Serrano throwing strikes but missing.
Serrano in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Serrano accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Serrano stands up and waves to Nelson to follow him.
Nelson throws a head kick but Serrano moves out of range.

The fight stays on the outside here - Serrano looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Serrano misses with a takedown attempt - Nelson sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Nelson swats away the attempt to clinch by Serrano.
Serrano misses with a head kick.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Serrano tries to clinch up but Nelson circles away and keeps his distance.
No joy there for Nelson, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Serrano fails in his attempt to clinch.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Serrano wants to get back to striking at distance but Nelson won't allow it.

Nelson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Nelson misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Serrano tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Nelson holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Nelson escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Nelson closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Todd Nelson dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Serrano slips a jab and a cross from Nelson.
Nelson doesn't manage to clinch there - Serrano circles away.
Serrano wants to clinch up but Nelson keeps it at a distance.
Nelson throws a jab but it's blocked by Serrano.

Serrano darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Serrano throws a strike but Nelson avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Nelson is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Serrano escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

and Nelson counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.


Serrano is rocked!

Serrano closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Nelson to the mat! Nelson manages to get full guard.
Oh Serrano is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Nelson decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Serrano feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Serrano wants to stand and escape but instead Nelson has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Serrano throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Serrano is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Serrano is wriggling around but Nelson manages to pass to half guard.
Serrano tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Nelson has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Serrano bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Brian Serrano overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Serrano throws a strike but Nelson rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Serrano manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Nelson is trying to get back to his feet but can't.

Nelson is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
You get the feeling that Nelson really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Serrano scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Nelson?
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Nelson really wants to buck Serrano off and get back to his feet.
Serrano is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Nelson can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Serrano won't let Nelson get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

and Serrano counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Nelson swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Serrano decides to stand back up. Serrano steps back and let's Nelson get back to his feet.
Serrano tries to clinch but Nelson moves out of range.
Nelson tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Nelson misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Nelson misses with a double jab.
Serrano displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Nelson throws out the jab.
Nelson swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Nelson swats away the attempt to clinch by Serrano.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Serrano wants to clinch.
Nelson connects with a stiff jab that staggers Serrano - oh and he follows up with a huge uppercut that knocks him out cold! Man, that was brutal!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:12 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Todd Nelson!
