PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Will Ostermeyer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Status (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Will Ostermeyer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mark Status!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Yukihiro Shimada and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Status drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Status wants to control but Ostermeyer is keeping him busy.
Status misses with the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ostermeyer throwing some weak shots from the bottom that do no damage.
Status throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Ostermeyer wants to control but Status postures up.
Ostermeyer tries to bench press Status off him but Status keeps the position.
Status misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Status creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Status has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Mark Status seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Status tries to bum rush Ostermeyer with a series of wild strikes but Ostermeyer uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Status fails to land the takedown.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Ostermeyer enables Status to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Ostermeyer manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Ostermeyer is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Status trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Ostermeyer is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Status defends well.
Status won't allow Ostermeyer to sweep him here.

Ostermeyer isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Status stacks Ostermeyer on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Status!

Status wants to control but Ostermeyer is keeping him busy.

Ostermeyer is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

Status decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Status shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Status has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Ostermeyer on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Ostermeyer tries to get out of the position.

Status is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Ostermeyer is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Status decides to stand up, so the ref orders Ostermeyer to his feet.

Status shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Status showed some decent athleticism there.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Ostermeyer is refusing to be controlled, as Status sits in half guard.
Ostermeyer is trying to stand.
Status passes the guard and advances to mount!
Status lands a big elbow.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Status trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Status is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Ostermeyer can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mark Status dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Status drives through and clinches with Ostermeyer against the cage.
Ostermeyer is trying to pull guard but Status has him pressed against the cage.
Ostermeyer using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Status has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Status goes for a takedown in the clinch but Ostermeyer prevents it.

Ostermeyer manages to break the clinch.

Ostermeyer scores with a takedown into Status's guard.
Ostermeyer trying to control but Status is working from the bottom.
Status looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Status scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Status avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Ostermeyer gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Status controlling the action here for a moment.
Status lands with a left to the head.

Status has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Ostermeyer regains guard immediately.
Status stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ostermeyer swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Status stands and throws Ostermeyer's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Status working away.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Status is looking to take a break and control but Ostermeyer is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Ostermeyer wants to get back to his feet but Status drags him back down.
Mark Status has got the better of the ground game so far.
Status wants to control but Ostermeyer is keeping him busy.
Ostermeyer knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Status on the ground.
Ostermeyer tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Status working the head and body with strikes.
Status lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Status in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.

Status wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Ostermeyer, who protects the arm well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Status trying to control the action but Ostermeyer is working from the bottom.

Status stands up.
Ostermeyer throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Status lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Ostermeyer has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Ostermeyer and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Status throws a shot to the body.

Status shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Status passes to side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Status content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Status decides to stand back up. Status steps back and let's Ostermeyer get back to his feet.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Ostermeyer changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Status tries to avoid it but Ostermeyer manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Status to the ground. Status escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Status looking to score a takedown here. Ostermeyer is defending well but Status drives through and ends up in Ostermeyer's guard.

Status gets to his feet - Ostermeyer follows without any prompting.
Ostermeyer throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mark Status showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



Status closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Status lands in his opponent's guard.

Status drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Status seems to have locked his on tight now - Ostermeyer screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Status, as he picks up the win!
