PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Berik Yawoka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tony Jaa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Yawoka comes to the ring accompanied by keep running up that hill. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Tony Jaa was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Berik Yawoka!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 9 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Tony Jaa!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Sergei Dronov and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jaa throws a lazy uppercut

and Yawoka counters with a shoot takedown. Jaa fights it but they end up in guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Yawoka thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Yawoka trying to control but Jaa is working from the bottom.

Yawoka is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Yawoka tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Yawoka has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Yawoka is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Jaa doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Yawoka.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Jaa is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Yawoka pulls his head out easily.

Jaa slaps away a takedown attempt from Yawoka, before circling back to the center of the mat.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Jaa enables Yawoka to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Jaa manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Yawoka not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Yawoka has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

We're going to have a standup here because Berik Yawoka wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Jaa looks to land a body kick but Yawoka moved away.

Yawoka drives through and clinches with Jaa against the ropes.

Yawoka has Jaa pressed up against the ropes. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Yawoka pulls back from the ropes and twists to the side, sending Jaa tumbling to the mat - Yawoka dives into Jaa's guard.

Berik Yawoka has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Yawoka changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jaa tries to avoid it but Yawoka manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jaa to the ground. Jaa escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Jaa has his foot on Yawoka's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Yawoka works his way back into a safe position though.

Tony Jaa comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Yawoka has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
