PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Hugo Pires (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tommy Valincki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Valincki is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by SpiderBait - Black Betty . Tommy Valincki will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hugo Pires!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tommy Valincki!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Yuuki Gou and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Valincki swinging wildly here.
Pires blocks a head kick by Valincki.
Pires really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Valincki drives through and clinches with Pires against the cage.

Pires breaks the clinch.
Pires blocks a leg kick.
Valincki swinging wildly here.
Valincki throws a head kick that misses.

Pires gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Pires managing to block the knees to the body from Valincki.
Valincki tries to pull guard but Pires forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Valincki gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Pires.
Valincki jumps guard but Pires stands there with Valincki around his waist. Valincki gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Pires breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Pires jumps guard and drags Valincki to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Pires has Valincki pulled in close to control his posture.

Pires had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Valincki defends it easily.
Pires seems keen to control Valincki's posture.

Pires is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Valincki is aware though and is defending well.
Pires on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Pires tries to get out of the position.

Pires seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Valincki decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

so Pires counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Pires slips nicely into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Valincki is defending against the submission attempts here by Pires.

Pires is working for a submission of some sort.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Pires passes to side control.

Valincki moves into the clinch.
Valincki gets underhooks to prevent Pires's takedown attempt.
Pires is trying to stall.
Pires avoiding damage as Valincki throws knees to the body.
Pires is pushing Valincki up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Valincki manages to break the clinch.
Pires getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Valincki pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Pires shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Pires showed some decent athleticism there.
Hugo Pires overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Pires is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Valincki is breathing heavily.

Pires works his way into full mount!

Pires takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Pires jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Valincki is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Valincki and Pires has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
A lull in the action here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Valincki misses with an attempted mid kick.
Pires avoids a punch combination nicely.
Pires is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Valincki misses with a double jab.

Pires has closed the distance and engaged Valincki in a clinch.
Valincki is trying to stall.
Valincki jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Pires walks away with a smile on his face. Valincki gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Valincki takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Valincki is looking to clinch.
Pires misses with a body shot.
Valincki takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Pires closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Pires slows the pace down in half guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Hugo Pires.

Pires scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Pires stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Valincki misses with a jab, cross combination.

Pires moves into range and clinches up with Valincki.
Valincki tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Pires smiles and moves away.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Pires gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Pires presses Valincki against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.

Pires drags the fight down to the ground.

Valincki drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Pires dives on top into guard.
Pires will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Pires works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Pires is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Pires frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Pires working for a submission but Valincki is keeping him at bay.
Pires is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Valincki can do to turn this around?

Valincki is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Pires is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Valincki is surviving well by controlling Pires's body position as best he can.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Hugo Pires showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Pires has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
