PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Yuri Boyka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Josh Hendricks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hendricks has a pretty significant injury - he really shouldn't be fighting right now but he's a warrior and he's here none the less! Josh Hendricks is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hendricks will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Hendricks looks winded! Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Boyka.
Hendricks gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Boyka stands and steps away. Hendricks gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Boyka shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Hendricks is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Boyka scores with a couple of nice shots. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Boyka seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
That's one minute gone in the round.
We're going to have a standup here because Yuri Boyka wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Boyka clinches with his opponent.
Boyka breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Boyka goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Boyka shoots in and gets a takedown into Hendricks's guard. Boyka sitting in guard here, content to control. Boyka's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
That's two minutes gone in the round. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Boyka passes Hendricks's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Boyka has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Hendricks defend it? Boyka steps over the head and cranks it - Hendricks is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Boyka!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:23 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Yuri Boyka!
