Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Duncan Rogers! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Bruski! The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Donatello Bradman and Summer Carpenter.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rogers feints and as Bruski raises his hands in defense, Rogers changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Bruski is looking to stand up but Rogers isn't so interested in that idea. Bruski uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Bruski getting the better of the striking in that exchange. Rogers shoots for a takedown but Bruski saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Bruski misses with a wild combination.
Rogers fails in his attempt to clinch. Rogers tries to clinch but Bruski is having none of it. Bruski throws a nice looking combination but Rogers bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Bruski is looking to land body kicks. Rogers shoots in but no luck this time. Bruski listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
It looks like Duncan Rogers has been cut. Bruski looks to land a combination but Rogers avoids it well. Rogers closes the distance and clinches. Rogers misses with a knee to the head.
That's one minute gone in the round. A short right from Rogers. Bruski wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Rogers has him pressed against the cage. Bruski looks gassed! Bruski takes an elbow to the temple. Rogers lands a nice elbow. Rogers creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses. Bruski wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. A right handed body shot lands from Rogers.
Rogers lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards. Bruski takes an elbow to the forehead. Rogers lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Rogers throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Rogers trying to pass the guard but Bruski defending well. Rogers is trying to control the action in half guard but Bruski is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Rogers not landing any meaningful shots this time. Bruski avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Rogers. Rogers wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bruski keeps working. Bruski is trying to stand.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Rogers connects with a nice short shot to Bruski's temple. Rogers missing with the ground and pound from half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Rogers blocks a leg kick. John Bruski is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Rogers gets a clinch. Rogers lands with a light punch inside. The referee calls for Rogers to work.
Rogers wants a takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Duncan Rogers. That's going to take a lot out of him. Bruski takes an elbow to the temple. Bruski prevents a takedown attempt there.
Rogers prevents Bruski from breaking the clinch. Rogers lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Rogers is nestled in close to Bruski, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Rogers lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Rogers scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Rogers not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Rogers uses his free foot to push down on Bruski's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Bruski.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rogers prevents Bruski from getting the reversal. Rogers looking to finish Bruski with some ground and pound. This is bad for Bruski!
Bruski is rocked! Rogers breaks from Bruski's wrist control and lands an elbow. Bruski is still in real trouble! Can Rogers finish him? Rogers lands a big shot to the head and Bruski winces in pain. He's tapped out due to strikes!
