The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Townsend swats away the attempt to clinch by Steveson. Steveson looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Steveson keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Steveson looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Steveson decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet. Townsend gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Steveson breaks from the clinch.
Townsend stuffs the takedown attempt from Steveson. Steveson gets slowly back to his feet. Townsend keeps the fight on the outside. Steveson misses with a body kick. Steveson is looking to land body kicks. Townsend with a poor takedown and Steveson counters with a big head kick but Townsend shrugs it off.

Townsend darts in trying to clinch and Steveson finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body. Nice takedown defense from Townsend. No joy for Steveson on that attempt. Devin Townsend seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Townsend fails with the takedown and Steveson counters with a stiff right hand. Steveson is breathing heavily. Townsend tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Steveson paws at him with a jab and circles away. Townsend is looking to clinch. Steveson drives through and clinches with Townsend against the cage.

A head kick misses from Steveson. Townsend tries for a takedown but Steveson circles away easily and Steveson counters with a takedown into side control. Joe Steveson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Devin Townsend.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Townsend sneaks out the side door and pushes Steveson away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape. Townsend wants to clinch and Steveson counters with a one-two to the body. Townsend clinches up with Steveson and pushes him back against the cage. Townsend is trying to break the clinch but Steveson has him pressed against the cage. Steveson tries to work over Townsend's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. Townsend wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Steveson tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked. Steveson wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Townsend is working for takedown but Steveson is calmly controlling the position for now. Townsend trying to land knees to the body.
Townsend lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Steveson backwards. Townsend manages to pull guard.
This has been an exciting period of action! Steveson pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Townsend is keeping the position for now. Steveson is looking to stand up but Townsend won't let him.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Steveson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Townsend swivels though and keeps the full guard. Steveson wants to control from the top but Townsend keeps moving. Steveson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Townsend seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Steveson stands up from guard. Let's bang! Steveson misses with a takedown attempt - Townsend sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Townsend misses with a jab, cross combination.
Townsend shoots and misses and Steveson counters by clinching up. Steveson breaks from the clinch.
Townsend throws the left hand but Steveson avoids the punch easily. Steveson has Townsend up against the cage in a clinch.
Steveson wants the takedown. Townsend is fighting it off but Steveson persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Townsend's guard against the cage. Steveson looking to control the position here, rather than advance. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

An inside leg kick lands from Townsend. Steveson tries for a takedown but Townsend circles away easily and Townsend counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Steveson's guard now. Townsend postures up.
Townsend is looking to stand up but Steveson won't let him. Townsend is breathing heavily. Steveson pulls Townsend in to control the position. Townsend decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Steveson throws a sloppy head kick and Townsend moves out of range easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Townsend wants to clinch and Steveson counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Townsend is lucky that one didn't land flush. Townsend keeps the fight on the outside. Excellent takedown into side control there by Townsend. Steveson is trying to control Townsend's posture but Townsend avoids it. Townsend remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. Steveson tries to bench press Townsend off him but Townsend keeps the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Steveson is trying to control Townsend's posture but Townsend avoids it. Steveson tries to get back to half guard but can't. Townsend wants to lay and pray for a moment but Steveson keeps working. Townsend landing a few strikes.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Steveson is trying to improve his position.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Townsend tries for a takedown but Steveson circles away easily and Steveson counters with a head kick. Steveson closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Steveson trying to control the action but Townsend is working from the bottom. Steveson throwing shots but missing, from side control. Steveson moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now. Joe Steveson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Steveson decides to take the fight back to the feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Townsend gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Steveson is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Steveson works a leg free and moves into half guard. Steveson stands up from half guard. The fight moves into the clinch position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Joe Steveson will probably get the nod. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Townsend wants to get up but he can't break Steveson's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Townsend stands up and waves to Steveson to follow him. Joe Steveson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Townsend is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Townsend is looking to clinch. Steveson shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Steveson fails with the takedown and Townsend counters with a body kick that stops Steveson in his tracks momentarily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joe Steveson. That's going to take a lot out of him. Steveson walks into a straight right hand from Townsend. Townsend tries to keep at a distance but Steveson has taken the fight into the clinch. Townsend has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Steveson avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Steveson leaning against his opponent.

Steveson is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Steveson's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Steveson has his foot on Townsend's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Townsend works his way back into a safe position though.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Steveson looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Townsend is defending well. Steveson quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Townsend has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Steveson celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
