Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alex Soto Major (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeremy Ross (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alex Soto Major!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jeremy Ross!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, John Mangel and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ross tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Soto Major manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Ross lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Ross lands a nice looking body kick.

Soto Major tries to keep at a distance but Ross has taken the fight into the clinch.
Soto Major can't get the takedown.
Ross will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Soto Major up against the cage.
Soto Major stalling.
Soto Major is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Soto Major has had enough of the clinch but Ross keeps him there for the moment.

Ross pulls Soto Major into guard.
Ross should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Ross looking for a sweep. Not yet Ross, not yet.
Soto Major trying to control but Ross is working from the bottom.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ross wants to get back to his feet but Soto Major is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Soto Major throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Ross works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Soto Major postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Ross tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Ross keeping full guard, as Soto Major tries to pass.
Soto Major has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Ross managing to control the position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Ross displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Soto Major.
Ross tries to close the distance and clinch up but Soto Major swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Soto Major shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Ross but Ross pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alex Soto Major. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Soto Major defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Ross.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Ross has eaten all the pies!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Ross.
Ross throws the kick towards the body but Soto Major avoids it.

Ross shoots in for a takedown but Soto Major shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Soto Major fails with a takedown attempt.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Ross enables Soto Major to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Ross manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Soto Major is breathing heavily.
Ross not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Ross holds on and takes a little breather.
Soto Major makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Soto Major gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Soto Major pushes Ross up against the cage in a clinch.
Soto Major has Ross pressed against the cage.
Ross drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Soto Major gets the underhooks and prevents it.
A frustrated look appears on Ross's face as he tries to break the clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
A battle for position here, against the cage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Soto Major's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Ross shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Soto Major sprawls well. Soto Major wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Ross gets slowly back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Alex Soto Major will probably get the nod.

Ross tries for a takedown but Soto Major circles away easily
and Soto Major counters with a three punch combo that has Ross backing up. Ross nods at Soto Major to acknowledge the strikes.
Soto Major gets off balance looking for a body kick
and Ross counters with a nice uppercut.
Ross misses with a takedown

and Soto Major counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Soto Major pushing down on Ross's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Ross misses with the combination.
Soto Major throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Ross shoots in for a double leg but Soto Major sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Alex Soto Major has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jeremy Ross.

Soto Major feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Soto Major is in close to Ross's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Soto Major trying to control the position from guard on top but Ross is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Ross wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Soto Major is now in half guard.
Well, if Soto Major is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Soto Major looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Ross throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Ross fails with the takedown

and Soto Major counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Soto Major.
This has been an exciting period of action!

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Alex Soto Major wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Soto Major closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Ross quickly recovers to half guard.

Ross tries to roll over but Soto Major keeps him under control.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Soto Major lands a nice short elbow.
Ross slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Ross has his foot on Soto Major's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Soto Major works his way back into a safe position though.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Soto Major fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Ross manages to avoid it.
Ross connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Soto Major keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Nice sprawl there from Soto Major as Ross shoots in.

Soto Major darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Ross trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Soto Major manages to pass to mount!

Soto Major moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Ross has worked his arm free - good work by Ross!
Soto Major works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Ross is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Soto Major off and has taken his back!
Soto Major breaks Ross's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Soto Major is stalling in the full guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Ross is on top in guard.

Soto Major is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Ross postures up.
Ross wants to control from the top but Soto Major keeps moving.
Ross must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Alex Soto Major.
Ross displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Soto Major.
Ross tries to bum rush Soto Major with a series of wild strikes but Soto Major uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Alex Soto Major has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jeremy Ross.

Ross tries to sprawl but Soto Major drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Soto Major is thwarting Ross's attempts to control the position.
Soto Major wants to free his trapped foot but Ross is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Soto Major looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that's the end of the fight!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Soto Major, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
