Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Gomer Jacobs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexander Hodgins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Jacobs might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Everybody was Kung Fu Fighting. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gomer Jacobs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alexander Hodgins!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hodgins throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Hodgins fails in his attempt to clinch.
A punch combination from Hodgins misses.
Hodgins misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Jacobs fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Hodgins throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Hodgins tries to clinch there but Jacobs circles away.
A cross from Hodgins lands.
Jacobs shoots and misses

and Hodgins counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Hodgins.
Hodgins gets underhooks to prevent Jacobs's takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gomer Jacobs. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jacobs tries to score a body lock takedown but Hodgins shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Jacobs has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Hodgins avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Hodgins escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Alexander Hodgins seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jacobs moves out of range of the body kick from Hodgins.
Jacobs shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Hodgins counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hodgins doesn't manage to clinch there - Jacobs circles away.

Jacobs is rocked!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Hodgins trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Oh Jacobs is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Jacobs trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.

Jacobs looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Jacobs seems to have got his legs back now.
Jacobs has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hodgins accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Jacobs had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Hodgins defends it easily.
Hodgins is in close to Jacobs's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Hodgins trying to control but Jacobs is working from the bottom.
Jacobs is trying to keep Hodgins in close.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hodgins looking to pass the guard.

Jacobs is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Hodgins is aware though and is defending well.

Jacobs escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hodgins gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Jacobs has his foot on Hodgins's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hodgins works his way back into a safe position though.
Hodgins slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Jacobs escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hodgins gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Jacobs is looking for a triangle here but Hodgins uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Hodgins wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Jacobs, who protects the arm well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jacobs takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Hodgins lands a nice forearm strike.
Hodgins lands a few punches from side control.
Jacobs regains half guard.
Jacobs missing with punches from the bottom.

Jacobs looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Jacobs trying to control from the bottom.
Jacobs is looking to improve his position.
Hodgins takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Jacobs looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Hodgins working over Jacobs with some ground and pound. Jacobs looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Hodgins uses his free foot to push down on Jacobs's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Jacobs.

Hodgins fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Hodgins tries to control but Jacobs wriggling away.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Hodgins cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Hodgins postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Jacobs looks a forlorn figure.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jacobs is bucking up trying to escape but Hodgins cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Jacobs tries to improve his position but instead Hodgins has taken his back!
Hodgins wants to control but Jacobs is keeping busy.
Hodgins is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Hodgins gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Hodgins gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Hodgins apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Jacobs looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alexander Hodgins dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Nice defenses there by Jacobs.
Hodgins lands a big head kick that sends Jacobs to the canvas! Hodgins follows up with strikes from the mount that forces the ref to step in and stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:15 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Alexander Hodgins!
After the fight, Alexander Hodgins was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
