PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Keith Ha (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and VanChristian Slayter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Keith Ha!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, VanChristian Slayter!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Ian Loll and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Slayter slips under a jab.
Ha walks into a left hand.
Ha swinging wildly here.
Ha throws a series of punches but Slayter avoids them all with ease.
Ha clobbers Slayter with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Ha misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Ha throws a low kick, looking for Slayter's leg but Slayter calmly moves out of range.
A swing and a miss from Ha.
Ha swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Slayter uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Ha.
Ha throws a combination that misses
and Slayter counters with a lovely straight right hand!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ha throws a sloppy head kick and Slayter moves out of range easily.
No joy there for Ha, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Ha gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Ha finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Slayter uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

Slayter gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Ha has had enough of the clinch but Slayter keeps him there for the moment.
Slayter lands a body shot in the clinch.
Slayter keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Ha's efforts to push away.
Slayter has Ha pressed against the cage, preventing Ha from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Slayter lands with a short head shot on the inside.


It looks like Keith Ha has been cut.
Slayter lands a hook that snaps the head of Ha backwards.

Slayter is working Ha over against the cage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Slayter keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Ha's efforts to push away.
Ha has had enough of the clinch but Slayter keeps him there for the moment.

Ha falls off balance throwing a combination
enabling Slayter to counter with a crisp jab.
Ha misses with a looping right.
Slayter slips a jab and a cross from Ha.
A shot to the liver by Ha. Beautiful body shot.
Ha slips a jab from Slayter.

Ha gets caught napping as Slayter dives in and scores a takedown. Ha manages to retain guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Slayter looking to sit in guard and control but Ha gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Slayter is looking to stand up but Ha isn't so interested in that idea.
Slayter wants to hit a switch here but Ha passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Slayter there!
Slayter is looking to get to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ha manages to capitalize on a mistake by Slayter to take his back!
Slayter just trying to survive but Ha is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Slayter can't escape the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Slayter is trying to get back to his feet but Ha has full control of the position and if anything, Slayter has just worked his way into a worse spot.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ha not allowing Slayter to control his hands.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

VanChristian Slayter dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Keith Ha's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Ha pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Slayter shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Ha pinned against the cage. Ha gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Ha swings for the body but Slayter moves out of range.
Slayter swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ha just misses with a punch to the body.
Keith Ha seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ha misses with a series of wild punches.
Ha throws a sloppy head kick
and Slayter counters with a straight right hand.

A punch combination from Ha misses.
Ha ducks under a wild hook from Slayter.
Ha throws a head kick but Slayter moves out of range.
Ha throws a body punch but Slayter moves out of range.
Slayter doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Ha cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Keith Ha is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

and Slayter counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Slayter.
Slayter gets through Ha's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Slayter prevents Ha from breaking the clinch.
Slayter misses with a knee to the head.
Ha wants to get back to striking at distance but Slayter won't allow it.

Ha working hard to break the clinch.
Ha tries to break the clinch but Slayter is controlling the position.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Slayter.
Slayter scores with a shot to the side of Ha's head.
Ha tries to break the clinch but Slayter is controlling the position.
Slayter fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Keith Ha has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of VanChristian Slayter.

Ha is fighting off a takedown attempt but Slayter is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Ha to the mat. Ha regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Slayter stops Ha from standing up.
Slayter wants to control from the top but Ha keeps moving.
Ha wants to stand up but Slayter is controlling him.
Slayter trying to control but Ha is working from the bottom.

Slayter trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Slayter looking to sit in guard and control but Ha gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Slayter is on top in guard.
Slayter throws a strike but Ha rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Slayter has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Ha can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Slayter has his foot on Ha's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Ha works his way back into a safe position though.
Slayter is trying to keep Ha in close.
Slayter wants to stand up but Ha is controlling him.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Slayter is looking for a triangle here but Ha uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

VanChristian Slayter showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Ha fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Slayter on the side of the head.
Slayter lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Ha at a distance.
Slayter displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Ha throws out the jab.
Ha tries a head kick but it misses.
A left lands for Slayter.
Ha misses the shot to the body.
Keith Ha is winning the standup battle so far.
Ha throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Slayter stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
A jab from Slayter does it's job there.

A shot to the body from Ha misses
enabling Slayter to counter with a crisp jab.
Ha blocks a jab.
Ha just misses with a punch to the body.
Ha misses with a head kick.
Slayter misses the jab.
Ha throws a combination that misses
and Slayter counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Ha is looking to wear down Slayter with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Ha pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Ha throws a hook but Slayter avoids it easily.
Slayter lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Slayter takes one to the side of the head.
Ha throws a series of punches but Slayter moves out of range.
Keith Ha is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Ha misses with a series of wild punches.
Ha misses with a combination
and Slayter counters with a straight right hand.
Slayter throws a predictable looking body shot
and Slayter takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Ha lands a slapping body shot.
Ha misses with a hook to the body

and Slayter counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Slayter.

Slayter wants to control from the top but Ha keeps moving.

Slayter pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Ha is keeping the position for now.
Slayter is looking to work some ground and pound but Ha has wrist control.
Slayter lands a couple of digs.
Ha preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Ha can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Slayter controls the pace.
Slayter postures up in Ha's guard and throws a big left but Ha blocks it.
Slayter trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Ha manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Slayter looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Slayter manages to escape and get back to his feet.
VanChristian Slayter is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ha throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Slayter.
A looping hook to the body misses from Ha. Slayter does a little dance to reset his feet.
Keith Ha has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Ha staying out of range there.

And that's the end of the fight!
VanChristian Slayter comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Slayter winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
