Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Bert Ernie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Esteban Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
22 - 35 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Bert Ernie! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Esteban Sanchez! The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, William Peck and Steve Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sanchez fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Ernie avoids it really well and circles away. Ernie throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Sanchez was covering up waiting for the punch and Ernie finishes the takedown easily into guard. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Ernie throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Sanchez is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Ernie is controlling him. Ernie trying to stand up but can't free himself from Sanchez's guard. Ernie is looking to work some ground and pound but Sanchez has wrist control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Sanchez working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Ernie. Sanchez wants to stand but Ernie is controlling the position. Sanchez pushes Ernie off and scrambles back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sanchez misses with a takedown and Ernie moves into the clinch. Sanchez pressing his opponent against the cage. Ernie turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Sanchez sneaks back into half guard. Ernie is trying to control. Sanchez wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Ernie is really struggling to control Sanchez but he's trying to hold on to the position. Sanchez is looking to escape. Sanchez is staying active underneath Ernie, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Ernie has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ernie not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Sanchez can do anything to dispel that myth. Sanchez is looking to escape. Ernie is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! A nice elbow there by Ernie. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Ernie breaks from Sanchez's wrist control and lands an elbow. Ernie gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks! Ernie feints and as Sanchez raises his hands in defense, Ernie changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Ernie connects with a couple of short punches. Sanchez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ernie. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Ernie keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Sanchez's head. Sanchez wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Ernie manages to pass to side control. Sanchez is trying to stand up here but Ernie is controlling him well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ernie wants to take a breather but Sanchez is having none of it. Sanchez wants to get back to full guard. Ernie is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Ernie not landing any meaningful shots this time. Sanchez taking some punishment here, with Ernie in his half guard. Ernie is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Sanchez defends it well. Sanchez looks like he's trying to stand up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Ernie is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Sanchez sees it coming and defends easily. Ernie throwing shots but Sanchez is blocking nicely. Sanchez tries to kick Ernie off but Ernie keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Ernie is looking for submissions but instead, Sanchez has regained full guard.
Sanchez is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Ernie is looking to stand up but Sanchez won't let him. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Ernie wants to control from the top but Sanchez keeps moving. Sanchez preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Bert Ernie dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Ernie shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Sanchez's guard. Ernie tries to free his leg and advance position but Sanchez is retaining full guard. Sanchez wriggles free and stands up. Ernie drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Ernie looks up at the clock and then as Sanchez takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Ernie smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Sanchez wants to control but Ernie postures up. Ernie tries for a kimura but Sanchez is defending well. Ernie is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Sanchez has escaped the position, nice work there.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ernie has knee on belly momentarily but Sanchez bucks him off and regains half guard. Ernie is trying to control. Sanchez wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Sanchez tries to kick Ernie off but Ernie keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Sanchez pushes Ernie off looking to stand but Ernie dives back in and keeps control.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Ernie scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Ernie prevents Sanchez from standing back up.
Sanchez is breathing heavily. Ernie stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Sanchez to get to his feet. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Ernie closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Sanchez did well to prevent Ernie getting side control. Ernie wants to pass to mount but Sanchez is defending the position. Ernie is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Ernie trying to pass the guard but Sanchez defending well. Sanchez wants to get back to his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ernie is keen to just control but Sanchez is a slippery customer. Ernie is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Ernie is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Sanchez is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Sanchez is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Ernie looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Sanchez prevents Ernie from improving position. Sanchez is trying to buck Ernie off. Sanchez is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first. Ernie misses with the ground and pound. Ernie is working to tighten is grip on Sanchez's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Sanchez has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Ernie is really squeezing tight and eventually Sanchez passes out! Ernie breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
