PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Frederik Poulsen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jorge Derecho (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frederik Poulsen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jorge Derecho!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Wesley Smith and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Poulsen keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Poulsen tries for a takedown but Derecho sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Sloppy strikes from Poulsen. Those never looked like landing.
Poulsen rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Derecho moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Some wild striking there from Derecho.
Poulsen dodges the punch combination from Derecho.
Derecho shoots for a double leg takedown but Poulsen sprawls well. He's pushed Derecho's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Derecho looks winded!
Derecho fails in his attempt to clinch.
Derecho throws a looping overhand right but Poulsen ducks down to avoid it.
Derecho blocks a head kick by Poulsen.
Poulsen misses with a double jab.
Jorge Derecho seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Poulsen tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Poulsen shoots in but no luck this time.

Poulsen closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Derecho is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Derecho has a couple of punches blocked by Poulsen.

Poulsen escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Derecho misses with a double jab.

Poulsen drives through and clinches with Derecho against the cage.
Derecho is trying to break the clinch but Poulsen is controlling him.

Poulsen jumps guard and drags Derecho to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Poulsen looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Derecho must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Poulsen had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Derecho defends it easily.

Derecho trying to control but Poulsen is working from the bottom.
Poulsen wants to sweep here but Derecho controlling him for the moment.
Poulsen is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Derecho really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Poulsen. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Poulsen shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Derecho as he jumps to the side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frederik Poulsen. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Poulsen has managed to clinch.

Poulsen jumps into guard, dragging Derecho to the mat.

Derecho drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Poulsen manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Derecho has Poulsen in his guard.
Poulsen slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Poulsen works over Derecho with some ground and pound from guard.
Poulsen seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Poulsen's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Derecho throws a right and a left that both miss.

Derecho leaves Poulsen with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Derecho throws a sloppy head kick and Poulsen moves out of range easily.

Derecho fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Poulsen feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Derecho's calf.
Poulsen cracks Derecho with a right hand to the side of the head.
Poulsen shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Derecho eats them both and turns towards Poulsen to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Frederik Poulsen is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Poulsen rushes Derecho and presses him up against the cage.

Derecho has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Poulsen drags the fight down to the ground.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Derecho is fighting to break Poulsen's control of his arms but Poulsen is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Poulsen shoots in looking for a takedown. Derecho tries to sprawl out of it but Poulsen keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Derecho manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Derecho gets tackled into the cage by Poulsen. Poulsen maintains the clinch.

Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Poulsen. Derecho shrugs it off though.

Poulsen rushes Derecho and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Poulsen is working for takedown but Derecho is calmly controlling the position for now.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Derecho stalks Poulsen and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Poulsen's face. Poulsen staggers backwards, shaken.
Poulsen scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Derecho rushes Poulsen and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Derecho trying to land knees to the body.
Poulsen keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Derecho's efforts to push away.
Poulsen has Derecho pressed against the cage.

Poulsen jumps into guard, dragging Derecho to the mat.
Derecho wants to pass the guard but Poulsen is keeping the position.

Poulsen is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Derecho is aware though and is defending well.

Poulsen is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Poulsen is trying to work for a kimura but Derecho is defending well.
Poulsen moves into full mount! Derecho won't be happy about that!
Poulsen tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Frederik Poulsen overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Derecho swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.

Poulsen is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Derecho is surviving well by controlling Poulsen's body position as best he can.

Poulsen is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Derecho is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Derecho flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Poulsen anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Derecho and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Poulsen slips an arm under Derecho chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Poulsen has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Poulsen is squeezing on Derecho like an anaconda would it's prey. Derecho fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:36 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Frederik Poulsen!
