Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Paul Smith! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, el Fighter! The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Skip Squint and Eliza Hachem.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Fighter, as that shot connected.
It looks like Paul Smith has been cut. Smith could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Smith keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Smith looks to land a combination but Fighter avoids it well. Nice uppercut there from Smith. Fighter tries a head kick but it misses.
Fighter takes a jab right on the kisser.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. A punch combination from Smith misses. Smith works Fighter's body with a nice hook. Fighter misses with a double jab.
Fighter clinches with his opponent.
Fighter breaks from the clinch.
Fighter connects with a crisp jab. Fighter closes the distance and pushes Smith back into the cage. Smith is trying to force a seperation but Fighter has the dominant position. Smith wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
That's one minute gone in the round. Smith breaks the clinch.
Fighter misses with an uppercut. A right-left combo lands from Smith. Fighter has Smith up against the cage in a clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Smith's face as he tries to break the clinch. Fighter lands a glancing elbow in the clinch. Smith is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Smith tries to break the clinch but Fighter is controlling the position. Fighter breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. A shot to the liver by Smith. Beautiful body shot. Smith lands with a right hand. Smith slips a jab and a cross from Fighter.
Smith blocks a head kick by Fighter.
Fighter throws the left hand but Smith avoids the punch easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fighter throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Smith. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Smith connects with a nice looking jab.
Fighter takes a jab right on the kisser.
It looks like el Fighter has been cut. Nice uppercut there from Fighter. Fighter tries to clinch up. Smith dodges the punch combination from Fighter.
Smith leaves Fighter with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Fighter misses with the combination.
Smith tries to bum rush Fighter with a series of wild strikes but Fighter uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Fighter shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Smith is trying to defend but Fighter finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Fighter trying to control the action but Smith is working from the bottom. Fighter not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Fighter wants to free his trapped foot but Smith is holding on for dear life with his legs. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Fighter keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Fighter is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Fighter looking to control and managing it successfully. Fighter has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Smith is forced to tap!
