PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Allen Reed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hans Palmer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Reed's entrance music is Country Boy Can Survive. A fine choice. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Allen Reed!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Hans Palmer!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Palmer has a takedown stuffed.

Palmer scores with a takedown into Reed's guard.
Palmer is fighting to break Reed's control of his arms but Reed is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Reed is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Reed tries to strike from the bottom.
Palmer tries to free his leg and advance position but Reed is retaining full guard.
Reed is trying to control the position but Palmer postures up.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Allen Reed just wasn't active enough.

Reed shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Palmer has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Reed is working away from the top position though.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Reed in particular looking to stall.
Palmer slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Reed stands and throws Palmer's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Reed slows the pace down.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Palmer regains half guard.
Palmer is looking to control Reed's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Palmer avoid being mounted?
Palmer gets back to full guard.
Palmer is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Palmer pulls Reed in close to his closed guard and prevents Reed from doing any damage or advancing position.

Reed avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Reed not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Palmer will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Reed trying to control but Palmer is working from the bottom.
Reed is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Palmer is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Allen Reed just wasn't active enough.
Palmer tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Reed is able to avoid easily.

Reed instigates a clinch.
Reed tries a body shot but Palmer blocks it.
Palmer stalling in the clinch but Reed improves position.
Palmer stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Palmer gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Reed regains guard.
Reed wants to sweep here but Palmer controlling him for the moment.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Palmer throws a big right hand that misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hans Palmer dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Nice sprawl there from Reed as Palmer shoots in.
Allen Reed is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Reed tries to score a power double leg takedown but Palmer sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Reed somewhat.

Reed gets a double leg takedown into Palmer's guard.
Reed has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Palmer tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Palmer had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Reed defends it easily.
Reed stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Palmer swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Palmer is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Reed is positioning himself well to prevent Palmer advancing to mount.

Palmer is trying to work for a kimura but Reed is defending well.
Palmer passes to side control.

Palmer decides to stand up, so the ref orders Reed to his feet.

Palmer misses with a takedown attempt

and Reed counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Palmer is breathing heavily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Reed passes into half guard.
Reed working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Palmer's thigh. Palmer counters though and makes it back to full guard.
Hans Palmer has got the better of the ground game so far.
Reed wants to get up but he can't break Palmer's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Reed is working Palmer over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Reed postures up.
Reed wants to control from the top but Palmer keeps moving.

Palmer utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Reed stops Palmer from standing up.
Reed is looking to work some ground and pound but Palmer has wrist control.
Reed pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Palmer is keeping the position for now.
Palmer is striking but Reed is not phased and passes to half guard.
Palmer is pressing down on Reed's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Reed keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Palmer's head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Palmer not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Palmer keeping moving, preventing Reed from controlling successfully.
Reed postures up.

Palmer uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Reed throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Palmer gets a double leg takedown into Reed's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Palmer stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Reed throws the kick towards the body but Palmer avoids it.
Nice takedown defense from Palmer. No joy for Reed on that attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Hans Palmer will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Palmer misses with a head kick.
A head kick misses from Reed.
Palmer fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Reed feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Palmer lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Reed!
Reed wants to hold on but Palmer pushes him away.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Palmer sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Palmer putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!

Palmer jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Reed is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Reed and Palmer has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Palmer controls the position.
Reed is looking for a sweep.
Palmer works to advance to full mount. Reed defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Palmer wants to control but instead Reed manages to regain half guard.
Reed knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Palmer on the ground.
Palmer prevents Reed from improving his position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Palmer sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Reed defending well though.
Reed is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Palmer jumps into side control!
Palmer trying to control the position but Reed is working away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Reed tries to strike from the bottom but misses.

Palmer thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Palmer decides to stand up, so the ref orders Reed to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Reed throws a lazy right hand but Palmer sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Palmer shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Reed as he avoids it easily.
Reed fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Palmer avoids it really well and circles away.

Reed dives in and scores a takedown into Palmer's guard.
Reed really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Palmer lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Reed!
Palmer content just to control the position here.

And that's the end of the fight!
Hans Palmer comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Palmer winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
