PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Norman Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Muay Thai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Thai has chosen The Art of 8 Limbs as his entrance music. Muay Thai is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Norman Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Muay Thai!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Diaz gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Diaz tries to escape but Thai has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

Diaz has managed to clinch.
A short right from Thai on the inside.
Thai wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Diaz has him pressed against the cage.
Diaz has Thai pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Thai manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Thai throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Diaz blocks it with crossed arms.
Diaz keeps control of Thai as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Diaz working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Thai doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Thai manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Diaz is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Diaz breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Diaz throws a jab but it's blocked by Thai.
Thai tries to close the distance and clinch but Diaz swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Diaz throws a combination that misses
and Thai counters with a nice low kick that buckles Diaz's knee momentarily.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Thai enables Diaz to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Thai manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Diaz is looking to pass into half guard but Thai pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Thai is in guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Diaz is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Diaz tries to hold on but Thai postures up.
Diaz keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Thai avoids the attempt from Diaz to control.
Thai can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Diaz is looking to escape.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Diaz tries to get back to half guard but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Thai tries to keep at a distance but Diaz has taken the fight into the clinch.
Diaz drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Thai gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Diaz tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Thai just stands there and leans against the cage.
Thai is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Diaz is keeping busy.
Diaz jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Thai walks away with a smile on his face. Diaz gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Norman Diaz. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Diaz rushes Thai and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Diaz tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Thai smiles and moves away.
Diaz tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Diaz scores with a nice body kick.
Thai throws a quick inside leg kick.
Thai leaves Diaz with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Diaz sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Thai is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Muay Thai has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Norman Diaz is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Thai won't allow Diaz to sweep him here.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Diaz, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
