Tiago Mendez has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Willy Watson's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Willy Watson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Tiago Mendez!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Andrew Berry and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Watson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Mendez's guard.

Watson avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Watson works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Mendez looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Mendez tries to get to full guard but Watson has control of the leg.
Mendez is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Watson jumps into side control!
Mendez is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Watson's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Watson is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Mendez sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Watson is just content to waste time from the top position. Mendez takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Mendez throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Watson escapes and throws Mendez's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Mendez looks gassed!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mendez is not content to let Watson control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Watson closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Mendez sneaks back into half guard.

Mendez is trying to control but can't.
Mendez is breathing heavily.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Watson is keen to just control but Mendez is a slippery customer.

Watson is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Mendez is just riding it out for now. Watson eventually gives up the hold.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and Watson counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Watson is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Mendez knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Mendez for a finish.
Watson has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Mendez's body.
Mendez trying to control the action but Watson just sinks the hooks in.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Mendez trying to control but Watson flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!
Mendez manages to reverse the position and now he's in Watson's guard. Nice work there by Mendez.

Watson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Mendez controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Mendez wants to get up but he can't break Watson's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Mendez has had enough of the clinch but Watson keeps him there for the moment.

Watson wants the takedown. Mendez is fighting it off but Watson persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Mendez's guard against the cage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Willy Watson showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Watson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
