The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
The gets off balance looking for a body kick and Kato counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for The! We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Kato postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. The looks a forlorn figure.
Kato scoring with strikes but The is staying in there. Kato jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… The is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by The and Kato has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! The trying to remain calm as Kato controls from the top position. The is looking to reverse the position. The takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Kato cracks The with a big elbow. The takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
The takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Kato tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Kato has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Kato lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kato scores with a couple of short elbows.
The is rocked! The taking punishment in the form of punches.
The is still in real trouble! Can Kato finish him? Kato cracks The with a big elbow. Oh, he's hurt! Kato immediately mounts and start dropping bombs! The is done! The referee jumps in and saves him from any more punishment - a quick and decisive finish by Kato!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:39 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Benzi Kato!
