Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Daniel Cormier!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, David Johnson!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Frank Dennis and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson closes this distance looking for a takedown but Cormier circles away.
Nice takedown defense from Cormier. No joy for Johnson on that attempt.
Johnson blocks a head kick by Cormier.
Johnson fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Daniel Cormier has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of David Johnson.

Johnson closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Cormier wants to control but Johnson is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Cormier is trying to get back to full guard.
Ground and pound from Johnson.
Cormier is refusing to be controlled, as Johnson sits in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cormier pushes Johnson off and gets back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cormier throws a half hearted mid kick.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Cormier.
Johnson shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Cormier forces Johnson back against the cage and clinches.
Knees in the clinch landing for Cormier.
Johnson throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Cormiers head.
Johnson tries to pull guard but Cormier forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Cormier's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Cormier is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Johnson's half guard.
Cormier uses his free foot to push down on Johnson's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Johnson.
Johnson wants to get back to his feet.
Johnson looks winded!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cormier lands a big shot there that rocks Johnson but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Cormier quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Cormier but it's paid off an Johnson is forced to tap! Nice work by Cormier.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:34 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Daniel Cormier!
A relieved looking Daniel Cormier thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
