Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Chrystov Aleksey! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mariusz Groszek! The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Hirohito Nitta and Shigeki Sano.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Groszek scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. Groszek pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Aleksey back to the cage. Groszek follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver. Mariusz Groszek seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Aleksey throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Groszek stuffs the takedown. Groszek lands a jab to the nose. A combination from Aleksey does no damage. Groszek misses the jab. Aleksey fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Groszek will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Groszek throws a right hand that Aleksey ducks under and follows up with a left that Aleksey also avoids with ease. Groszek throws a series of punches but Aleksey avoids them all with ease. Aleksey shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Groszek is trying to defend but Aleksey finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. This has been an exciting period of action! The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Aleksey throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Aleksey stops Groszek from getting back to his feet.
Aleksey decides to stand up. Aleksey closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Aleksey is looking to advance position but Groszek won't allow it. Aleksey missing with the ground and pound from half guard. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Groszek can do anything to dispel that myth. Groszek keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Groszek looks like he's trying to stand up.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Groszek blocking the ground and pound attempt from Aleksey. Aleksey throws a strike but Groszek avoids it easily and moves to full guard. Groszek preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Groszek working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Aleksey. Aleksey working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Aleksey postures up and lands a big shot to Groszek's brow.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Aleksey decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Mariusz Groszek is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Groszek lands with an uppercut that bounces Aleksey off the cage and back into range. Aleksey scores with a sloppy right hand. Groszek should have avoided that one.
It looks like Mariusz Groszek has been cut. A combination from Aleksey does no damage. Jab from Aleksey. Groszek misses with a few strikes there.
Groszek lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Groszek looks to land a left hand but Aleksey moved out of range nicely. Aleksey avoids the body shot from Groszek.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Groszek bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Aleksey's head backwards. Sloppy strikes from Aleksey. Those never looked like landing. Aleksey misses with a two punch combination.
Aleksey fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Groszek looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Groszek misses with a few strikes there.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Groszek listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. A punch combination from Groszek misses. Aleksey drops Groszek with a nice combination! Aleksey dives into Groszek's guard, looking to finish!
Groszek is rocked! Aleksey throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Groszek works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Groszek is still in real trouble! Can Aleksey finish him? Groszek preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Groszek seems to have recovered his senses. Aleksey working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Groszek's head. Aleksey trying to control but Groszek is working from the bottom. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Aleksey stands up from Groszek's guard - Aleksey perhaps looking for a knockout. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Chrystov Aleksey dominated that round. The cut man is working on Mariusz Groszek's cut. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Nice defenses there by Groszek. A punch combination from Aleksey misses. Groszek throws a nice looking combination but Aleksey bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Aleksey misses with a straight left. Groszek has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him. A telegraphed right hand from Aleksey misses the target. Aleksey fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Nice straight punches there by Groszek. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Groszek. Aleksey fails to land the takedown. A combination from Groszek does no damage. Groszek missing with a left hand there. Aleksey was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Groszek lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Aleksey backs up against the cage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Groszek leaves Aleksey with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chrystov Aleksey. That's going to take a lot out of him. A right-left combo lands from Groszek. Aleksey avoids a punch combination nicely.

Jab from Groszek. Groszek might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable. Aleksey showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Groszek.
Groszek misses the shot to the body. Groszek throws a right and a left that both miss. A combination from Groszek does no damage. Groszek is breathing heavily. Groszek looks to land a right hand but Aleksey moved out of range. Aleksey takes a swing at Groszek's ribcage but misses. Aleksey shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

This has been an exciting period of action! Aleksey bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Aleksey has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Aleksey in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Aleksey sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Groszek is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Aleksey working the body and head with strikes. Aleksey throws an elbow but Groszek slips to the side and avoids it well. Aleksey tries to score with some ground and pound. Groszek controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Aleksey is putting a hurting on Groszek here, landing some big shots from side control. Groszek dodges the ground and pound from Aleksey. Aleksey working the head with strikes. Groszek is not in a great position here, taking some shots. An elbow from Aleksey crashes against the mat.
Aleksey decides to stand back up. Aleksey steps back and let's Groszek get back to his feet. Aleksey avoids a punch combination nicely.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Aleksey throws a body punch but Groszek moves out of range. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Oooh a lovely combination from Aleksey sends Groszek down but not out. Aleksey dives into side control looking to finish.
That has opened up Mariusz Groszek's cut even more. Groszek defending against the ground and pound. Groszek defending against the ground and pound. Aleksey misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

The cut above Mariusz Groszek's eye is starting to cause him problems now. Chrystov Aleksey overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Aleksey trying to control the action but Groszek is working from the bottom. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Groszek is letting Aleksey control him for a moment. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Chrystov Aleksey dominated that second round. The cut man is working on Mariusz Groszek's cut. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!
Groszek throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Aleksey swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Groszek throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Aleksey. Aleksey lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Groszek circles away quickly and effectively. Groszek swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Aleksey counters with a nice body shot. Groszek stalks Aleksey and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Aleksey's face. Aleksey staggers backwards, shaken. Chrystov Aleksey is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. A looping hook to the body misses from Groszek. Aleksey does a little dance to reset his feet. Aleksey lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Aleksey shoots for a double leg takedown but Groszek sprawls well. He's pushed Aleksey's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Aleksey shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Aleksey fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Aleksey drops Groszek with a straight left! Oh this is bad for Groszek! Aleksey dives in and starts dropping bombs - the referee has no choice but to step in and save him!
