Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, John Lineker! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
18 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Brazilian Experiment II! The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Luis Engracia and Leandro Rodrigues.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The fight moves into the clinch position. Experiment II blocks a body shot from Lineker. Lineker manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Experiment II is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Lineker gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. A bit of stalling here from Lineker.
Experiment II pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Experiment II misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Lineker takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Lineker connects with an inside leg kick. Experiment II fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Lineker sprawls well initially but Experiment II persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Lineker is looking for a sweep. Experiment II is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Experiment II controlling the action here. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Experiment II trying to control from half guard but Lineker is working away. Experiment II with the ground and pound but Lineker uses the opportunity to regain guard. Experiment II landing some decent shots from guard. Lineker keeping moving, preventing Experiment II from controlling successfully. Experiment II throws an elbow that misses. Lineker uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Experiment II's guard. Nice move by Lineker!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lineker stopping the sweep attempt from Experiment II. Experiment II is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Experiment II is looking to stand up but Lineker isn't so interested in that idea. Lineker wants to control from the top but Experiment II keeps moving. Experiment II throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lineker gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Lineker lands a big head kick that sends Experiment II tumbling to the mat! Lineker takes a step backwards and waves Experiment II back to his feet - he wants the finish!
Experiment II is rocked!
It looks like Brazilian Experiment II has been cut. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Lineker connects with a leg kick. Experiment II looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it. Experiment II is still on wobbly legs! Can Lineker finish him? Lineker bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick. Experiment II gets hit by the mother of all head kicks and drops to the canvas in a crumpled heap! Woooow, the Internet is going to be talking about this one for weeks!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). John Lineker! A relieved looking John Lineker thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
