PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jack Tyler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Rodgers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jack Tyler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Steve Rodgers!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Phil Schofield and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Tyler has Rodgers up against the cage in a clinch.

Tyler breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Rodgers shoots in for a takedown but Tyler shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Tyler takes the fight into the clinch.
Rodgers wants to take the fight to the mat but Tyler manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Rodgers escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Tyler lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.

Tyler clinches up with Rodgers and pushes him back against the cage.

Tyler breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Tyler enables Rodgers to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Tyler manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Tyler seems keen to control Rodgers's posture.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Rodgers sitting in guard here, content to control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Tyler is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Rodgers is controlling him.
Tyler looking to hit a scissor sweep but Rodgers is one step ahead there.
Tyler is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

We're going to have a standup here because Jack Tyler wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Tyler closes the distance and clinches up with Rodgers, looking for a takedown. Tyler pushes Rodgers against the cage but Rodgers circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Tyler tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Rodgers paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Tyler could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Rodgers tries to clinch there but Tyler circles away.

Tyler misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Tyler misses with a takedown

and Rodgers counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Rodgers wants to stand up but Tyler has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Rodgers stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Tyler to get to his feet.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Rodgers shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Tyler eats them both and turns towards Rodgers to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Tyler throws a right hand that Rodgers ducks under and follows up with a left that Rodgers also avoids with ease.
Rodgers jabs Tyler to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Rodgers fails to land the takedown.
Jack Tyler has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Steve Rodgers.
Tyler pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Tyler is breathing heavily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rodgers throws a left and a right that both miss
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

Rodgers fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Tyler sprawls well initially but Rodgers persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
It looks like Rodgers is going to stand back up.
Tyler trying to control but Rodgers postures up.
Rodgers is looking to stall here but Tyler recovers full guard.

Tyler scrambles and gets back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Tyler tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Rodgers swivels and escapes.
Tyler fails with a takedown attempt.

Rodgers shoots in and gets a takedown into Tyler's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Tyler working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Rodgers doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Rodgers manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rodgers decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Tyler, up you get!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Horrible takedown by Rodgers or perhaps it was just good defense by Tyler which made him look bad.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steve Rodgers dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Rodgers throws a sloppy head kick

and Tyler moves into the clinch.

Rodgers has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Tyler uses from the top position.
Rodgers controls Tyler momentarily but Tyler frees himself.
Tyler is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Rodgers is looking to sweep but instead, Tyler has passed into half guard.
Rodgers is staying active underneath Tyler, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Tyler is taking a breather. Rodgers says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Jack Tyler.
Rodgers tries to close the distance and clinch but Tyler swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Tyler shoots for a takedown but Rodgers saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Rodgers moves to clinch but Tyler breaks away
and Tyler counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Rodgers scores with a one two! Tyler had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Rodgers is breathing heavily.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Tyler.
Rodgers tries to score a power double leg takedown but Tyler sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Rodgers somewhat.
Tyler has a takedown stuffed.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jack Tyler. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Tyler changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rodgers tries to avoid it but Tyler manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rodgers to the ground. Rodgers escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Steve Rodgers seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Rodgers tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Tyler paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Tyler tries to score a power double leg takedown but Rodgers sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Tyler somewhat.
Rodgers shoots in but Tyler avoids the takedown attempt easily.
The fight stays on the outside here - Rodgers looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Tyler gets caught flat footed, as Rodgers shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Rodgers trying to control the position from guard on top but Tyler is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Rodgers gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Jack Tyler is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Rodgers scores with a takedown into Tyler's guard.
Tyler looking to hit a scissor sweep but Rodgers is one step ahead there.

Rodgers got a little sloppy there for a moment and Tyler has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Rodgers has managed to get both his arms back between Tyler's legs - danger averted.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steve Rodgers showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Rodgers shoots for a takedown but Tyler saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Tyler thuds his shin into the meat of Rodgers's side.
Tyler misses with a straight left.
Rodgers tries to clinch but Tyler moves out of range.

and Tyler counters by moving into the clinch.
Tyler has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Rodgers after a bit of a struggle.
Rodgers wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Tyler has him pressed against the cage.
Tyler unloads a knee to the mid-section.
Rodgers is looking to control Tyler's arms but Tyler gets an underhook and turns him. Now Rodgers has his back to the cage.
Rodgers takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Tyler pulls Rodgers into guard.

Tyler is looking for a triangle but Rodgers pushes his legs off easily.

Tyler is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Steve Rodgers.
Tyler fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Tyler is trying to drag Rodgers to the mat but Rodgers just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Rodgers tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Tyler's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Tyler stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Tyler wants it to stay on the feet.
Tyler shoots in and drives through. Rodgers sprawls well.
Rodgers shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Tyler sprawls well. Tyler wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Rodgers gets slowly back to his feet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Rodgers avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jack Tyler showed his dominance in that final round.
