PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ben Zaylor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rupert MacGinnis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ben Zaylor!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rupert MacGinnis!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Frank Dennis and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
MacGinnis scoring well with a low kick there.
Zaylor shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says MacGinnis as he avoids it easily.
MacGinnis rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Zaylor moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
MacGinnis lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by MacGinnis.
Zaylor throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around MacGinnis's waist but MacGinnis gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Zaylor off to one side.
Zaylor shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with MacGinnis but MacGinnis pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ben Zaylor. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and MacGinnis counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Zaylor tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. MacGinnis manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

and MacGinnis counters with a body kick that stops Zaylor in his tracks momentarily.

and MacGinnis finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.

Zaylor moves in looking to clinch but MacGinnis pushes him off.
Ben Zaylor seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and MacGinnis counters with a good, hard body kick but Zaylor shrugs it off.

Zaylor dodges the punch combination from MacGinnis.
Zaylor gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and MacGinnis counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
MacGinnis misses with a jab, cross combination.
MacGinnis lands a jab to Zaylor's midsection.
Zaylor shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and MacGinnis counters with a two punch combo.
MacGinnis misses with a few strikes there.
Zaylor takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
MacGinnis throws a front kick that sends Zaylor stumbling back into the cage.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Zaylor.
Zaylor sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
MacGinnis misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Zaylor.
MacGinnis misses with a looping left.
MacGinnis throws a body punch but Zaylor moves out of range.
Zaylor fails with the takedown
and MacGinnis counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.
MacGinnis misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Zaylor changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. MacGinnis tries to avoid it but Zaylor manages to keep hold of a leg and drag MacGinnis to the ground. MacGinnis escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

and MacGinnis counters with a thumping low kick.

and MacGinnis counters with a nice kick to the body.

A chopping leg kick lands by MacGinnis.
MacGinnis cracks Zaylor with a right hand to the side of the head.
Zaylor will be looking to protect his midsection after taking some solid kicks to the body.
Zaylor gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and MacGinnis counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
MacGinnis throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
MacGinnis circles away from the clinch attempt.
Zaylor dodges the punch combination from MacGinnis.
Zaylor doesn't succeed with the takedown
and MacGinnis counters with an inside leg kick.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
MacGinnis misses with a double jab.
MacGinnis feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Zaylors jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rupert MacGinnis dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


MacGinnis tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Zaylor. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.
MacGinnis just misses with a punch to the body.
Nice sprawl there from MacGinnis as Zaylor shoots in.

MacGinnis leaves Zaylor with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Zaylor takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
MacGinnis lands a nice shot to the body.
Zaylor shoots for a takedown but MacGinnis saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
MacGinnis misses with a few strikes there.
Nice takedown defense from MacGinnis. No joy for Zaylor on that attempt.

MacGinnis tries to keep at a distance but Zaylor has taken the fight into the clinch.
Zaylor tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

MacGinnis breaks from the clinch.
Zaylor uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by MacGinnis.
MacGinnis lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Zaylor circles away quickly and effectively.
Zaylor checks the leg kick.

Zaylor bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Zaylor tries for a kimura but MacGinnis is defending well.

MacGinnis takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Zaylor is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down MacGinnis's shoulder. That is not cool.
Zaylor is looking to take a break and control but MacGinnis is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
MacGinnis is looking for a sweep.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
MacGinnis manages to get back to half guard.
MacGinnis won't allow Zaylor to pass to mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ben Zaylor dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Zaylor will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

and MacGinnis counters with a three punch combo that has Zaylor backing up. Zaylor nods at MacGinnis to acknowledge the strikes.

Zaylor shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. MacGinnis manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
MacGinnis keeping moving, preventing Zaylor from controlling successfully.
Zaylor is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because MacGinnis is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

MacGinnis seems keen to control Zaylor's posture.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Ben Zaylor.
MacGinnis looks to score with a jab to the body but Zaylor is just out of range.
Zaylor fails with the takedown.

Zaylor clinches up with MacGinnis and pushes him back against the cage.
A bit of stalling here from MacGinnis.
MacGinnis wants to take the fight to the mat but Zaylor manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
MacGinnis wants a takedown but no success here.
MacGinnis takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Zaylor tries to pull guard but MacGinnis won't allow it.

Zaylor lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Zaylor is looking to take a break and control but MacGinnis is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
MacGinnis wants to get back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Zaylor is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Zaylor is trying to control. MacGinnis wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
MacGinnis wants to control but Zaylor is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Zaylor is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Zaylor wants to control the pace but MacGinnis is squirming around nicely.
MacGinnis tries to control Zaylor's body but Zaylor pushes him off. MacGinnis squirms to his side and now Zaylor has his back!
Ben Zaylor overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Zaylor is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. MacGinnis is defending well though. Zaylor let's go of the attempt for now.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Will Zaylor go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?

Zaylor is working for a rear naked choke. MacGinnis is not defending it well and Zaylor has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! MacGinnis refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of MacGinnis's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:46 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Ben Zaylor!
