PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank Abbot (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlos Andrade (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank Abbot!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Carlos Andrade!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Robert Twigg and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Abbot throws a nice looking combination but Andrade bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Abbot shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Andrade eats them both and turns towards Abbot to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
No joy there for Abbot, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Andrade lands a left and a right that send Abbot crashing to the mat, dazed. Andrade thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Frank Abbot seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Abbot displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Andrade.
Abbot swings widly with a right hand

and Andrade counters with a shoot takedown. Abbot fights it but they end up in guard.


Abbot is rocked!
Andrade in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Oh Abbot is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Andrade trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Andrade wants to control from the top but Abbot keeps moving.
Abbot seems to have got his legs back now.
Andrade stands and throws Abbot's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Andrade wants to control but Abbot is keeping him busy.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Andrade tries to advance position but instead Abbot slips a leg back in to half guard.

Andrade is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Andrade missing with the ground and pound from half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Andrade is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Abbot trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!

Andrade goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Abbot is on top in guard.
Abbot wants to control from the top but Andrade keeps moving.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Andrade is looking for a triangle here but Abbot uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Andrade gets back to half guard.
Andrade preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Andrade is staying active underneath Abbot, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Andrade gets back to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Andrade throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Abbot escapes and throws Andrade's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Andrade is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Abbot is just content to waste time from the top position. Andrade takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Andrade working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Abbot has passed into half guard!
Andrade looks winded!
Andrade trying to get back to full guard but Abbot takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Carlos Andrade dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Abbot misses with a wild body shot.
Andrade tries to score a power double leg takedown but Abbot sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Andrade somewhat.
No joy there for Abbot, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Abbot bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

Abbot fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Andrade sprawls well initially but Abbot persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Andrade looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Abbot not doing much here.
Abbot passes to side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Abbot trying to control the position but Andrade is working away.
Andrade wants to control but Abbot postures up.
Abbot wants to lay and pray for a moment but Andrade keeps working.
Andrade parries the strikes from Abbot easily there. Abbot is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Andrade to escape.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Andrade sneaks back into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Andrade won't allow Abbot to pass to mount.
Andrade gets full guard.
Andrade wants to stand up but Abbot is controlling him.
Andrade is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Andrade is breathing heavily.
Andrade can't keep his opponent in guard - Abbot advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Abbot controlling the pace.
Andrade tries to get to full guard but Abbot has control of the leg.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Andrade is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Abbot pulls his head out easily.
Andrade is trying to control but can't.
Abbot is trying to control the action in half guard but Andrade is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Andrade looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Abbot tries to pass to full mount but Andrade defends it.
Well, if Abbot is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Andrade wants to control but Abbot is keeping busy and won't allow it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Abbot trying to control the action but Andrade is working from the bottom.

Frank Abbot has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Abbot throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Andrade was covering up waiting for the punch and Abbot finishes the takedown easily into guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frank Abbot dominated that second round.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Abbot punishes Andrade's body with a nice straight punch.

Abbot shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Andrade's guard.

Andrade looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Abbot is defending well. Andrade quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Abbot has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Andrade celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:35 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Carlos Andrade!
