PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Xander Rage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brett Watson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys are coming into the fight with injuries so let's see if that has a bearing on the fight. Xander Rage has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 1 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Xander Rage!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brett Watson!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, John Roberts and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Watson shoots in looking for a takedown. Rage tries to sprawl out of it but Watson keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Rage manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Rage gets caught flat footed, as Watson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Watson won't allow Rage to get back to his feet.
Rage looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Watson puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Watson perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Rage keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Watson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Rage is breathing heavily.
Watson thows a huge punch but Rage dodges it nicely.
Watson content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Rage is trying to stand back up but Watson is controlling him
Rage wants to control but Watson is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Watson winds up and cracks Rage with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Watson lands a nice short elbow.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

It looks like Watson might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Watson's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Rage knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Watson on the ground.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Brett Watson wasn't active enough on the ground.
Rage slaps away a takedown attempt from Watson, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Watson shoots in for a takedown but Rage shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Xander Rage has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brett Watson.

Rage is doing well to control the position and prevent Watson from advancing to side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Watson is nestled in close to Rage, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Watson working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Watson is controlling the pace.
Watson looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Rage with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Watson connects with a nice short shot to Rage's temple.

That's five minutes gone in the round.
Watson looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Rage tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Watson has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Watson content just to control the position here.
Rage is in a horrible position here. Watson smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Watson fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Rage takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Watson's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.
