Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Paul Bearer! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rob Petterson! The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Gregory Folan and Steve Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Petterson closes the distance and clinches up with Bearer, looking for a takedown. Petterson pushes Bearer against the cage but Bearer circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Petterson fails with the takedown. Bearer darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Bearer lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Bearer thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Petterson taking some punishment here, with Bearer in his half guard. Bearer wants to control but Petterson is keeping him busy. Bearer stalling. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Petterson trying to control from the bottom.
Bearer is looking for a kimura but Petterson is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Bearer to get the leverage. Bearer is trying to control. Petterson wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Bearer working over Petterson with some ground and pound. Petterson looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Bearer prevents Petterson from improving his position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bearer not landing any meaningful shots this time. Petterson tries to roll over but Bearer keeps him under control. Petterson is staying active underneath Bearer, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Bearer drops an elbow to the side of Petterson's head. Bearer scoring with strikes to the body and head. Petterson wants to improve his position but Bearer is controlling well.
Petterson looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Petterson is trying to get back to full guard. Bearer is pressing down on Petterson's thigh, looking to free his foot. Petterson is holding on for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bearer is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Petterson looking for submissions off his back. Bearer lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Bearer drops an elbow to the side of Petterson's head. Bearer trying to control the pace. Bearer not landing any meaningful shots this time. Bearer is nestled in close to Petterson, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Bearer working Petterson over with strikes.
Petterson is rocked! Bearer passes the guard and advances to mount! Petterson is still in real trouble! Can Bearer finish him? Bearer connects with a bit shot that sees Petterson covering up! More strikes from Bearer and the referee jumps in to stop the fight! Bearer is our winner by TKO!
