PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Albert Fish (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Smith has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
37 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Albert Fish! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Paul Smith! The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Skip Squint and Eliza Hachem.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Fish connects with a good right hand that stumbles Smith. Smith circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Smith takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Smith throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Fish fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Smith looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Smith looks winded! A left lands for Fish. Fish lands with an uppercut that bounces Smith off the cage and back into range. This has been an exciting period of action! Fish connects with a single shot there. Smith with a jab. Fish moves into the clinch successfully.
Fish presses Smith against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot. Fish turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. A lull in the action here. Fish has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
That's one minute gone in the round. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Fish decides to stand back up. Fish steps back and let's Smith get back to his feet. Smith walks into a jab. Fish lands with an uppercut that bounces Smith off the cage and back into range.
That has opened up Paul Smith's cut even more.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fish throws an overhand right from the outside, which connects and sends Smith stumbling backwards into the cage! Smith bounces back off the cage towards Fish, who cracks him with a two punch combination that drops him to his knees! Fish lands two more shots before the referee has chance to intervene - what a finish! Fish celebrates with his corner as the crowd cheer loudly.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:08 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Albert Fish!
