PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Terry Hartson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Scott Baker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Terry Hartson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Scott Baker!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Gregory Folan and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Hartson.
Hartson shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Baker pinned against the cage. Baker gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Baker looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Baker lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Hartson tries to clinch up.
Baker throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Baker throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Hartson showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Baker.
Hartson could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Baker bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Hartson's head.


Hartson is rocked!
Baker throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Baker throws a series of punches but Hartson avoids them all with ease.
Hartson closes the distance and clinches up with Baker, looking for a takedown. Hartson pushes Baker against the cage but Baker circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Baker changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Baker throws a head kick that misses
and Hartson counters with a big head kick but Baker shrugs it off.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Hartson fails with an attempt to clinch.
Hartson wants to clinch up but Baker keeps it at a distance.
Baker throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Hartson.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hartson slips a straight right by Baker.
Hartson fails to land the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Terry Hartson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hartson swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Hartson is breathing heavily.
Hartson closes the distance and clinches up with Baker, looking for a takedown. Hartson pushes Baker against the cage but Baker circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Hartson shoots in but no luck this time.
Hartson moves in looking to clinch but Baker pushes him off.
Nice body punch from Baker.
Baker waves his right hand out infront of him, looking to distract Hartson. Oh, he's unloaded a beast of a left hand - it worked! He's dropped Hartson to the canvas! Can he finish him!?
Oh Hartson is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Baker decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Baker pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Baker steps into range and cracks Hartson with a monster punch that buckles his knees! Hartson flops backwards and Baker dives into his guard looking to finish!
Baker chips away with some ground and pound.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Baker gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Baker throws a lazy head kick

and Hartson counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Baker pushes Hartson off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Baker circles away from the clinch attempt.
Hartson seems to have got his legs back now.
Hartson moves out of range of the body kick.
Hartson shoots in but Baker avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Baker scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Hartson misses with a body kick.
Hartson shoots for a double leg takedown but Baker sprawls well. He's pushed Hartson's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Baker paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Hartson on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Baker. Baker obviously looking to wear him down.
Hartson moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Baker throws a series of punches but Hartson moves out of range.

Hartson scores with a takedown into Baker's guard.
Baker wants to get back to his feet but Hartson is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Baker is striking off his back. Hartson thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Baker manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Baker looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hartson is one step ahead there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Hartson gets to his feet. Baker looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Baker misses with a body kick.
Hartson has a takedown stuffed.
Baker throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Hartson clinches up with Baker and pushes him back against the cage.
Hartson tries to pull guard but Baker holds him up against the cage and eventually Hartson drops back down to his feet.
Baker blocks the elbow strike.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hartson is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Hartson fails to pull guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Scott Baker dominated that round.
That's time! Hartson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Baker scores with a jab.
Baker avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Baker throws a head kick but Hartson moves out of range.
Hartson tries to clinch up.
Baker will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Baker throws a nice looking combination but Hartson bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Baker misses with a head kick.
Baker thuds his right hand into Hartson's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Hartson swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Hartson lands a front kick.
Hartson moves in looking to clinch but Baker pushes him off.
Hartson wants to clinch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Baker misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hartson throws a sloppy body shot
and Baker counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Hartson tries to clinch but Baker moves out of range.
Hartson is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Hartson walks into a straight right hand from Baker.
Hartson throws and low kick but Baker moves out of range easily.
Hartson throws a head kick that misses.
Baker throws a lazy head kick

and Hartson counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Baker on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Hartson seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Baker tries to kick Hartson off in order to stand up. Hartson Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Hartson prevents Baker from escaping the position.
Baker tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Hartson presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Baker is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

BOOM! Hartson connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Baker can't escape the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Baker is squirming around, avoiding Hartson's attempts to control the action.
Baker is working to get back to half guard.

Hartson prevents Baker from getting the reversal.

Hartson tries to control but Baker wriggling away.

Baker gets back to half guard.
Hartson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Baker keeps working.
Baker is trying to stand.
The fighters are battling for position here. Baker manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Baker is looking to stand up but Hartson isn't so interested in that idea.

Hartson thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Baker has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Hartson has passed into side control.
Baker is looking to regain half guard here but Hartson keeps moving and retains side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Baker is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Baker bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Hartson shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Baker pinned against the cage. Baker gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
A swing and a miss from Baker.
Baker stuffs the takedown attempt from Hartson. Hartson gets slowly back to his feet.
Baker dips to his left and cracks Hartson with an uppercut!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Terry Hartson will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Scott Baker seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Hartson misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Hartson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Baker's guard.
Baker doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Baker wants to sweep but no luck.

Hartson sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Baker's guard.

Baker pushes Hartson off and gets back to his feet.

Hartson takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Hartson fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Horrible takedown by Hartson or perhaps it was just good defense by Baker which made him look bad.
Nice takedown defense from Baker. No joy for Hartson on that attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Terry Hartson. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Nice sprawl there from Baker as Hartson shoots in.
Hartson shoots in looking for a takedown. Baker tries to sprawl out of it but Hartson keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Baker manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Hartson takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Terry Hartson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Hartson gets cracked there but stands up to it.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Baker breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Hartson staying out of range there.
Hartson closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Hartson shoots for a takedown but Baker saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Baker misses with an uppercut. Hartson saw that one coming.
Scott Baker seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Baker throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Hartson counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Baker is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Hartson wants to control from the top but Baker keeps moving.
Baker looking for a sweep. Not yet Baker, not yet.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Hartson ducks under a wild hook from Baker.
Hartson tries to clinch up but Baker circles away and keeps his distance.
Baker looks for the body kick but Hartson saw that one coming.
Hartson tries to close the distance and clinch but Baker swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Hartson uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Baker.

Hartson looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Baker!
