PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Puncher McGee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paulo Tuppy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Puncher McGee!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Paulo Tuppy!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A punch combination from Tuppy misses.

Tuppy clinches up against the cage.
Tuppy jumps guard but McGee turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Tuppy breaks from the clinch.
Tuppy wants to clinch.
McGee throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
McGee throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
McGee misses with a two punch combination.
McGee shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Tuppy pinned against the cage. Tuppy gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Tuppy has McGee up against the cage in a clinch.

Tuppy has clasped his hands together around McGee's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Tuppy prevents McGee from escaping the position.

Tuppy throws a strike aimed at the side of McGee's head but McGee avoids it well.

Tuppy tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Tuppy stands up and beckons McGee to his feet.
Tuppy shoots in but McGee avoids the takedown attempt easily.
McGee misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Tuppy shoots in for a takedown but McGee shows good takedown defense.
Puncher McGee has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paulo Tuppy.
McGee falls off balance throwing a combination

McGee scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!


It looks like Paulo Tuppy has been cut.

McGee throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Tuppy.
McGee swings for the body but Tuppy moves out of range.
McGee throws a series of punches but Tuppy avoids them all with ease.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Tuppy walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Tuppy shoots in for a double leg but McGee sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
McGee tries for a takedown but Tuppy circles away easily

and Tuppy decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in McGee's guard.
Tuppy stops McGee from standing up.
Tuppy tries to free his leg and advance position but McGee is retaining full guard.

McGee is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
McGee trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Tuppy gets to his feet - McGee follows without any prompting.
McGee swinging wildly here.
A looping hook to the body misses from Tuppy. McGee does a little dance to reset his feet.
Tuppy changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. McGee tries to avoid it but Tuppy manages to keep hold of a leg and drag McGee to the ground. McGee escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
McGee blocks the body kick.
McGee throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
McGee swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Tuppy will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Tuppy wants to clinch up but McGee keeps it at a distance.
McGee misses with a few strikes there.
McGee misses with a double jab.
McGee throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Tuppy on the side of the head.
Puncher McGee seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McGee lands with a shot to the body.
Tuppy swinging wildly here.
Tuppy looks winded!
McGee misses with a wild combination.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Tuppy clinches.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Tuppy shoots in but McGee avoids the takedown attempt easily.
A combination from Tuppy does no damage.
McGee pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Tuppy back to the cage. McGee follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

McGee misses with a double jab.
McGee lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

McGee gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
McGee wants to get back to his feet but Tuppy is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
McGee can't keep his opponent in guard - Tuppy advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
McGee pushes Tuppy off looking to stand but Tuppy dives back in and keeps control.

McGee is defending against the submission attempts here by Tuppy.
Tuppy missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Tuppy is trying to control. McGee wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
McGee wants to control but Tuppy is keeping busy.
McGee is trying to stand.

McGee has one foot on Tuppy's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

McGee stuffs the takedown.
Puncher McGee is winning the standup battle so far.
McGee lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Tuppy.

McGee closes this distance looking for a takedown but Tuppy circles away.
McGee misses with a series of wild punches.

Tuppy unloads a knee to the mid-section. McGee lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.

McGee is trying to break the clinch but Tuppy has him pressed against the cage.
McGee is working for takedown but Tuppy is calmly controlling the position for now.

Tuppy tightens his grip and picks McGee up, before dumping him to the ground. McGee manages to land in guard.
McGee is looking to stand back up but Tuppy counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by McGee.
Paulo Tuppy has got the better of the ground game so far.

Tuppy stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Tuppy is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in McGee's half guard.
McGee tries to kick Tuppy off but Tuppy keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Tuppy decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
McGee cracks Tuppy with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Horrible takedown by McGee or perhaps it was just good defense by Tuppy which made him look bad.
McGee throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
McGee misses with a two punch combination.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Tuppy blocks a leg kick.
McGee misses with a jab, cross combination.

Tuppy closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Paulo Tuppy will probably get the nod - 10:9.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


McGee lands a body shot.
McGee throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
McGee lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Tuppy circles away quickly and effectively.
McGee misses with a series of wild punches.
McGee fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Tuppy looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Tuppy scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Tuppy thumps McGee with a low kick.
McGee looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
McGee misses with a few strikes there.
McGee fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Tuppy shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Tuppy showed some decent athleticism there.
McGee avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Tuppy.

Tuppy sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. McGee defending well though.
McGee is staying active underneath Tuppy, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
McGee tries to kick Tuppy off but Tuppy keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Tuppy wants to take a breather but McGee is having none of it.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Paulo Tuppy.

McGee gets caught flat footed, as Tuppy shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
McGee wants to stand up but Tuppy is controlling him.

McGee manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Tuppy has a takedown stuffed.
McGee fails to land with a series of punches.
McGee doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Tuppy counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Tuppy.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Tuppy passes McGee's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Tuppy seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Let's hope that Tuppy has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

McGee tries to kick Tuppy off but Tuppy keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Tuppy stands up out of the half guard.
No joy there for McGee, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Tuppy tries for a takedown but McGee sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
A nice inside leg kick there by Tuppy. That's going to slow McGee down.
McGee lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Tuppy circles away quickly and effectively.
McGee connects with a looping right hand.
Tuppy showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from McGee.

Tuppy throws an overhand right that lands on McGee's shoulder, as McGee tries to avoid the shot.
Tuppy takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Puncher McGee is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
McGee connects with a looping right hand.

Tuppy pushes McGee up against the cage in a clinch.
Tuppy tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. McGee smiles and moves away.
Puncher McGee has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paulo Tuppy.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Tuppy shoots for a takedown but McGee saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
McGee shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Tuppy eats them both and turns towards McGee to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
McGee connects with a right hand. Tuppy shakes it off.

And that's the end of the fight!
Paulo Tuppy comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Tuppy winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
