Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gil Gilbert (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Thomas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Paul Thomas enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gil Gilbert!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Paul Thomas!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Jeff Smith and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Gilbert's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Gilbert lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.

Thomas drives through with a takedown into guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Thomas drops back, looking for a kneebar! Gilbert looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Gilbert looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Gilbert!
Thomas is not content to let Gilbert control the position.
Gilbert cracks Thomas with a big right hand but Thomas just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Gilbert goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Thomas rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Gilbert's guard! Nice work there by Thomas!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Thomas not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Gilbert had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Thomas defends it easily.

Gilbert has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Thomas is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Gilbert.
You can see the frustration on Gilbert's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Thomas is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Gilbert knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Thomas thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Thomas tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Thomas has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Thomas goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Gilbert has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Thomas but great work by Gilbert.
Thomas regains half guard there - taking advantage of Gilbert's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.

Gilbert wants to take a breather but Thomas is having none of it.

Thomas is pressing down on Gilbert's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Thomas has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Gilbert has passed into side control.
Thomas tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Gilbert wants to lay and pray for a moment but Thomas keeps working.
Gilbert tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Thomas is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Gilbert asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Gilbert lands with a kick to the temple. Thomas shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Gilbert misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Thomas has his takedown stuffed
and Gilbert counters with a body kick that stops Thomas in his tracks momentarily.
Thomas shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Gilbert defends it nicely.
Gilbert misses with a takedown attempt - Thomas sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Thomas tries for a takedown but Gilbert sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Gilbert changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Thomas tries to avoid it but Gilbert manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Thomas to the ground. Thomas escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Thomas shoots in looking for a takedown but Gilbert manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Thomas's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Thomas throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Horrible takedown by Thomas or perhaps it was just good defense by Gilbert which made him look bad.
Thomas is breathing heavily.
Thomas closes this distance looking for a takedown but Gilbert circles away.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Thomas is defended easily by Gilbert.

Gilbert tries to close the distance and clinch but Thomas swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Gilbert is looking to take a break and control but Thomas is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Thomas tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Gilbert wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Paul Thomas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Thomas stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Gilbert.
Good leg kick by Gilbert there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Gilbert doesn't manage to clinch there - Thomas circles away.

and Gilbert counters with a low kick, right behind Thomas 's knee.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Gilbert.
Thomas drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Horrible takedown by Thomas or perhaps it was just good defense by Gilbert which made him look bad.

Thomas on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Thomas shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Thomas was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Thomas is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Gilbert can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Thomas goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Gilbert is on top in guard.

Thomas controls Gilbert momentarily but Gilbert frees himself.

Thomas has his foot on Gilbert's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Gilbert works his way back into a safe position though.

A less than humble Paul Thomas misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
