Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joe Whitney! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Vitor Gracie! The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, David Schapiro and Jonathan Paton.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Whitney clinches. Gracie works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Gracie slips nicely into half guard. Gracie seems to be working for a kimura but Whitney defends the submission attempt. Gracie is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Whitney is defending against the submission attempts here by Gracie.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Gracie is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Whitney is just riding it out for now. Gracie eventually gives up the hold.

Gracie is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Whitney has managed to free his arm - good work. Gracie works his way into full mount!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gracie has control of Whitney's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Whitney regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Gracie is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Whitney to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Whitney shrugs it off. Whitney on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Whitney tries to get out of the position. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Gracie is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Whitney is surviving well by controlling Gracie's body position as best he can. Gracie looking to secure an arm triangle but Whitney defends it well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gracie working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Whitney looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Gracie! Submission of the night perhaps?
