Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Patrick Diaz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Paso Leati! The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Franklyn Lucas and Bruno Lombardi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Leati clinches up with Diaz and pushes him back against the cage. Leati lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Diaz backwards. Leati lands a right hand. Diaz fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Diaz tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Diaz can't break the clinch.
Diaz tries to break free but Leati pushes him back against the cage. Leati stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body. Diaz crunches a lovely knee into Leati's ribcage. Leati lands a body punch. Leati lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Diaz backwards. Leati lands with a short shot to the head. Diaz misses with a knee strike.
Diaz is trying to break the clinch but Leati is controlling him. Diaz tries to pull guard but Leati forces him back to his feet, against the cage. Leati lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Diaz is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Diaz's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button! Leati pushes Diaz back against the cage and unloads with a body punch. Leati lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage. Diaz throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Leati blocks it with crossed arms. Leati lands a body punch in the clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Leati digs a right hand underneath Diaz's ribcage. Diaz let out a lung full of air as it connected. Diaz can't break the clinch.
Leati cracks Diaz with a nice body shot. A short right from Leati on the inside. Leati lands a shot to the body. Leati lands a left hand.
Diaz tries to break free but Leati pushes him back against the cage. Leati has Diaz pressed against the cage, preventing Diaz from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Diaz tries to land knees in the clinch but Leati avoids the damage to the body. Leati digs a right hand into Diaz's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Diaz's gas tank. Diaz is breathing heavily. Diaz jumps guard but Leati turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Patrick Diaz. That's going to take a lot out of him. A hook to the body from Leati.
Leati lands with a left to the head. The referee calls for Leati to work.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Diaz throws a knee to the head but misses.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Leati. A nice right hand lands inside from Leati. The pace really dropping off here, momentarily. A short uppercut from Leati.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Diaz tries a knee to the head but Leati blocks it.

Diaz has had enough of the clinch but Leati keeps him there for the moment. Leati stalling.
Leati lands a body punch in the clinch. Leati pushes Diaz back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head. A left hand lands to the body for Leati.
Leati lands with a good tight uppercut to the head. Leati lands a shoulder strike. Leati lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Diaz backwards. Leati scores with a shoulder strike. Diaz throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Leati blocks it with crossed arms. Leati pushes Diaz back against the cage and unloads with a body punch. Leati taking a breather. Leati scores with a nice hook to the head. Leati lands a hook to the side of the head.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Leati lands with a left to the head. Leati just leaning against Diaz, taking a breather. An uppercut to the body lands inside from Leati. Diaz misses with a knee strike.
Diaz takes a shot to the head. Leati holding his opponent close, against the cage.
Leati lands a nice uppercut. Diaz manages to pull guard.
Leati got a little sloppy there for a moment and Diaz has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Leati has managed to get both his arms back between Diaz's legs - danger averted. Diaz keeping moving, preventing Leati from controlling successfully. Diaz has his foot on Leati's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Leati works his way back into a safe position though. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Diaz pushes a forearm under Leati's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Leati is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
