Damato has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Pete Damato has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 12 - 0, fighting out of New York, Pete Damato!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, James Mitchell!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, David Schapiro and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Damato throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Damato fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Mitchell checks it well.
Mitchell misses with a few strikes there.
Damato is breathing heavily.
Some wild striking there from Mitchell.
James Mitchell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Damato swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Mitchell scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Mitchell swinging wildly here.
Damato misses with a low kick.
Damato checks a leg kick nicely.
Damato slips a jab and a cross from Mitchell.
Mitchell throws a nice looking combination but Damato bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Mitchell tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Mitchell takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Mitchell lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Damato circles away quickly and effectively.

Mitchell drops his shoulder and cracks Damato with a huge uppercut! Damato goes down! Can Mitchell finish him?

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mitchell controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Mitchell throwing strikes but missing.

Damato working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mitchell doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mitchell manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mitchell tries to free his leg and advance position but Damato is retaining full guard.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. James Mitchell wasn't active enough on the ground.
Mitchell looks for the body kick but Damato saw that one coming.
Mitchell throws a head kick but Damato moves out of range.
Damato throws a head kick that misses.
Damato slips a jab and a cross from Mitchell.
OH! Damato has been rocked by a huge right hand and is in deep trouble! Mitchell smells blood and charges in for the finish! Mitchell unloads a vicious overhand right and connects to the jaw of Damato sending him face first to the canvas! Unbelievable!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). James Mitchell!
During a confident post fight interview, James Mitchell thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
