PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Richard Dawn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ricky Riot (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Richard Dawn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ricky Riot!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Patrick Alders and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dawn looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Riot looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Dawn seems to be working for a kimura but Riot defends the submission attempt.
Dawn trying to pass the guard but Riot defending well.
Riot has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Dawn is working away from the top position though.
Riot looks like he's trying to stand up.

Dawn gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Dawn closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Riot quickly recovers to half guard.

Dawn wants to pass the guard but Riot is defending well.
Dawn will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Riot moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Dawn chips away with some ground and pound.

Riot throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Dawn escapes and throws Riot's legs to the side, diving into side control!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Dawn stands up.

Dawn closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Well, if Dawn is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Dawn looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Dawn looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Dawn controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Riot is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Riot had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Dawn defends it easily.
Riot can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Dawn controls the pace.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Dawn wants to control but Riot is keeping him busy.

Dawn working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Dawn really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Dawn stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Riot tries to close the distance and clinch up but Dawn swats him away and circles back towards the center.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Riot wriggles free and stands up.
Riot pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

Dawn closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Riot quickly recovers to half guard.
Dawn prevents Riot from standing back up.
Riot is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Riot is looking to control Dawn's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Riot avoid being mounted?

Dawn is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Dawn wants to lay and pray for a moment but Riot keeps working.

Riot wants to improve his position but Dawn is controlling well.

Dawn passes the guard and advances to mount!
Dawn moves to take his opponent's back.

Dawn doesn't have the hooks in and Riot manages to turn into his guard.
Riot must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Riot throws a big right hand that misses.
Riot trying to control but Dawn is working from the bottom.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Dawn holds on and takes a little breather.

Dawn has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Riot can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Dawn bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Riot's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Richard Dawn just wasn't active enough.
Riot shoots in but Dawn avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Dawn shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Riot is trying to defend but Dawn finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Well Dawn has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Richard Dawn decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
