Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Caius Lehtonen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Aaron Alverez!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Roger Salmon and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alverez looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Lehtonen is fending him off so far but Alverez persists. Nope, Lehtonen circles away and we're back to standing.
Alverez closes this distance looking for a takedown but Lehtonen circles away.
Alverez sizes up Lehtonen with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Alverez closes the distance and clinches up with Lehtonen, looking for a takedown. Alverez pushes Lehtonen against the cage but Lehtonen circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Caius Lehtonen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Aaron Alverez.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Lehtonen.

Alverez closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Lehtonen jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Alverez walks away with a smile on his face. Lehtonen gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Lehtonen shoots in and bounces Alverez off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Lehtonen tries to free his leg and advance position but Alverez is retaining full guard.

Lehtonen decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Lehtonen shoots in but Alverez avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Alverez shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Lehtonen defends it nicely.

Lehtonen wants to clinch up but Alverez keeps it at a distance.
Aaron Alverez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Alverez rushes Lehtonen and presses him up against the cage.

Lehtonen decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Alverez shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Lehtonen counters with a nice double leg into side control. Alverez won't be happy with that.

Lehtonen controlling the position.
Alverez wants to control but Lehtonen postures up.
Lehtonen lands an elbow.
Alverez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lehtonen. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Lehtonen wants to finish this one by submission but Alverez is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Lehtonen.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Lehtonen controlling the pace for now.
Lehtonen has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Alverez's face.
This has been an exciting period of action!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Alverez is trying to reverse the position but instead Lehtonen has taken his back - oops!

and Lehtonen counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Lehtonen.

Lehtonen has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Alverez is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Lehtonen has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Alverez is breathing heavily.
Lehtonen is trying to control the action in half guard but Alverez is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Lehtonen looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Alverez with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Lehtonen is taking a breather. Alverez says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Lehtonen is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Alverez can't fight it off and eventually Lehtonen manages to take the fight to the floor. Alverez looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Lehtonen shoots for a double leg takedown but Alverez sprawls well. He's pushed Lehtonen's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Alverez throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Alverez takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Lehtonen is trying to work for a kimura but Alverez is defending well.

Lehtonen takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Lehtonen uses his free foot to push down on Alverez's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Alverez.

Lehtonen moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Alverez has worked his arm free - good work by Alverez!

Lehtonen stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Lehtonen in particular looking to stall.
Lehtonen seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Alverez for as long as he can get away with.

Alverez wants to control but Lehtonen is keeping busy.
Alverez tries to roll over but Lehtonen keeps him under control.

Caius Lehtonen has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Alverez pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Lehtonen drives through with a takedown into guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Lehtonen is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Lehtonen, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
