The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Branch closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Branch is trying to control the action in half guard but Boyd is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Boyd looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Boyd moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Boyd is looking for a triangle but Branch pushes his legs off easily.
Boyd has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Branch can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Branch drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Boyd dives on top into guard. Branch is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Boyd slips nicely into half guard. Boyd wants to free his trapped foot but Branch is holding on for dear life with his legs. Boyd seems to be working for a kimura but Branch defends the submission attempt. Boyd looks gassed! Boyd wants to pass the guard but Branch is defending well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Boyd is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Branch has managed to free his arm - good work. Branch wants to improve his position but Boyd is controlling well.
Branch is trying to maintain the position but Boyd is very close to passing his half guard. Branch flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Boyd in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Branch tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Boyd!
