Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ban-Ki Kim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Dai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kim's entrance music is Guns N' Roses: Welcome To The Jungle. A fine choice. Ban-Ki Kim has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ban-Ki Kim!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mark Dai!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Emerson Jorge and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kim throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

Dai closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Kim is trying to control Dai's posture but Dai avoids it.
Dai throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Kim wants to get back to his feet.
Dai working the head with strikes.
Kim on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Sloppy strikes there by Dai.

Dai throws a strike aimed at the side of Kim's head but Kim avoids it well.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Kim is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Dai has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Kim avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Dai.
Kim regains half guard.

Dai is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kim is just riding it out for now. Dai eventually gives up the hold.

Dai seems to be looking for submissions.

Dai is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Dai is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Kim defends it well.
Dai throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Dai looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Kim with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Kim is looking to escape.
Dai has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Dai is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Kim reverses the position - he's now on top in Dai's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Dai manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Kim manages to get himself to full guard.
Dai is looking to work some ground and pound but Kim has wrist control.
Kim wants to get back to his feet but Dai is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Dai is fighting to break Kim's control of his arms but Kim is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Dai throws a strike but Kim rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Dai manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Dai thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Kim tries to reverse the position but Dai maintains control.
Kim is working hard here to advance position.
Dai postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Kim looks a forlorn figure.
Dai throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Kim tries to hold on but Dai pushes him away.
Dai fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Dai jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Kim manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Kim parries the strikes from Dai easily there. Dai is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Kim to escape.

Dai is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Kim knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Kim takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Dai is trying to ground and pound but Kim uses the momentary lack of control by Dai to regain half guard.
Kim avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Dai.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kim moves into full guard.
Kim looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mark Dai dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Kim lands a head kick. Dai smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Kim throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Kim cracks the inside of Dai's front leg.
Dai misses with a body shot.
Dai shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Kim sprawls well. Kim wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Dai gets slowly back to his feet.

Dai fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Kim to the ground. Dai is now in Kim's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kim has momentary wrist control but Dai slips an elbow through the middle.
Kim utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Kim is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Dai distracts Kim with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Kim seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Dai is looking to work some ground and pound but Kim has wrist control.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Kim tries a head kick but it misses.
Dai avoids the head kick by Kim.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Dai.
Dai misses with a takedown attempt - Kim sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Kim throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Dai.

Nice takedown defense from Kim. No joy for Dai on that attempt.
Ban-Ki Kim has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mark Dai.
Dai on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Kim connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Dai takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Kim manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Dai is desperately trying to improve his position but Kim has a good base and remains in mount.
Dai is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Kim takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Dai is looking to improve his position but Kim isn't that keen on the idea.

Dai rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Mark Dai is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Dai is not content to let Kim control the position.
Ban-Ki Kim has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Kim prevents Dai from improving his position.
Kim is thwarting Dai's attempts to control the position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Ban-Ki Kim wasn't doing enough on the ground.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ban-Ki Kim.
I think Dai has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
