The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
O Brien cracks Smith with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Smith shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches O Brien napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Smith wants to stand and escape but O Brien is having none of it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Smith shoots in for a takedown but O Brien shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Smith fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Smith throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Smith shoots for a takedown but O Brien saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bubba Smith. That's going to take a lot out of him.
