PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Pat Miletich (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kazushi Sakuraba (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Miletich comes to the ring accompanied by Canibus- 2nd Round Knockout. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Pat Miletich!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Kazushi Sakuraba!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Saam Ante and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sakuraba throws an overhand right that lands on Miletich's shoulder, as Miletich tries to avoid the shot.
A jab lands there for Sakuraba.
Sakuraba takes a swing at Miletich's ribcage but misses.
Sakuraba misses the jab.
Sakuraba misses with a body punch

and Miletich counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Sakuraba's guard now.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Sakuraba can do anything to dispel that myth.

Sakuraba really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Miletich. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Pat Miletich.
Sakuraba lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Sakuraba's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Kazushi Sakuraba seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Miletich shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Sakuraba sprawls well. Sakuraba wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Miletich gets slowly back to his feet.
Sakuraba fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Miletich manages to avoid it.
Kazushi Sakuraba is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Sakuraba lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Sakuraba lands a glancing blow to the side of Miletich's head.
Sakuraba throws the left hand but Miletich avoids the punch easily.
Sakuraba cracks Miletich with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.

and Miletich counters with a shoot takedown. Sakuraba fights it but they end up in guard.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Miletich is looking to work some ground and pound but Sakuraba has wrist control.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The fight stays on the outside here - Miletich looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Miletich can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Sakuraba is looking to escape.
Sakuraba is in a horrible position here. Miletich smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Miletich, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
