Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ben Bitag! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Lyoto Parks! The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Micheangelo Fripello and Roger Salmon.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bitag tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Bitag looks to clinch and Parks counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. A punch lands to the side of Bitag 's head but he takes it in his stride. Bitag really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Parks gets in close and instigates a clinch. Parks jumps guard.
Parks tries to land a sweep but no joy. Bitag trying to control the position from guard on top but Parks is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Parks tries to land a sweep but no joy. Bitag missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Bitag trying to control but Parks is working from the bottom. Bitag postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Bitag wants to control from the top but Parks keeps moving.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bitag looking to sit in guard and control but Parks gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Parks controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Parks trying to control the position from guard on top but Bitag is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Parks closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Bitag's guard. Parks decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Bitag, up you get! Ben Bitag seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Parks clinches up with Bitag and pushes him back against the cage. Still in the clinch, Parks scores with a nice short uppercut. Parks gets through Bitag's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head. Parks lands a right hand that snaps the head of Bitag backwards. Parks lands a right hand that snaps the head of Bitag backwards. Parks softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Bitag tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Parks misses with a shot to the kidneys.

Parks lands a nice uppercut. Parks lands a left hand that snaps the head of Bitag backwards. Parks throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Bitags head. Parks slowing the pace effectively. Parks scores with a shoulder strike. Parks stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body. Bitag tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Parks smiles and moves away.
Bitag takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him. Parks throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Bitag on the side of the head. Parks cracks Bitag with a good jab. Bitag tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Parks paws at him with a jab and circles away. Parks tests Bitag's chin there with a solid looking shot.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bitag will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ben Bitag. That's going to take a lot out of him. Bitag shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Parks sprawls well. Parks wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Bitag gets slowly back to his feet. Parks gets in close and tags Bitag with a short punch that almost sends Bitag to the mat! Oh Bitag is in big trouble! He turns his back on Parks, trying to create some distance but Parks rushes him, striking wildly and Bitag goes down! The referee tackles Parks into the cage to end the fight! Parks is one violent man!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Lyoto Parks! Lyoto Parks retains his featherweight title! During a confident post fight interview, Lyoto Parks thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
