PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Riku Rupponen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Elvis Rodreguiz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Rupponen might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Cannibal Corpse I Cum Blood. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Elvis Rodreguiz!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Johanna Lukiainen and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Rupponen wants to sweep here but Rodreguiz controlling him for the moment.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Rupponen is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Rupponen has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rodreguiz can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Rupponen isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Rodreguiz stacks Rupponen on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Rodreguiz!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rodreguiz wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rupponen keeps working.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Rupponen's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Rodreguiz shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Rodreguiz was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Rupponen is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Rupponen tries to control Rodreguiz's body but Rodreguiz pushes him off. Rupponen squirms to his side and now Rodreguiz has his back!
Rodreguiz is trying to stick to Rupponen's back but Rupponen is turning into Rodreguiz. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Rodreguiz's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Rupponen.
Rupponen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rodreguiz swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Elvis Rodreguiz hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Rodreguiz manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Rupponen on his heels. He'll look to pass Rupponen's guard now, I'm sure.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Riku Rupponen.
I think Rupponen has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
