Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Royals Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mario Zapata (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mario Zapata!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Mauricio Rocha and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Zapata tries a head kick but it misses.
Zapata misses with a series of wild punches.
Gracie is looking to clinch.
Gracie avoids the head kick by Zapata.
Zapata explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Zapata swinging wildly here.

Gracie fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Zapata to the ground. Gracie is now in Zapata's guard.
Gracie engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Zapata trying to keep a closed guard but Gracie is proving a slippery customer.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gracie is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Zapata wants to sweep here but Gracie controlling him for the moment.
Gracie throws a big elbow that misses.
Gracie controlling from the top position.

Royals Gracie has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Zapata scores with a nice head shot.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Zapata cracks the inside of Gracie's front leg.
Zapata throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Gracie tries to clinch up.
Mario Zapata seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gracie is looking to clinch but Zapata is avoiding it.
Gracie tries to score a power double leg takedown but Zapata sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Gracie somewhat.
Gracie will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Royals Gracie. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Zapata will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Gracie fails with an attempt to clinch.
Nice defenses there by Gracie.
Gracie tries to clinch but Zapata moves away
and Zapata counters with a left to the body.

Gracie gets a takedown into half guard.
Gracie is breathing heavily.
Gracie passes to full mount!

Zapata defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Gracie.

Gracie looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gracie looking to control and managing it successfully.
Zapata tries to hold on but Gracie postures up.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Gracie throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Zapata because Gracie loaded up on that one.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Royals Gracie dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Gracie closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Zapata misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Zapata thuds his right hand into Gracie's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Zapata throws a sloppy head kick and Gracie moves out of range easily.
Gracie tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Gracie is looking to clinch but Zapata is avoiding it.
A left lands for Zapata.

Gracie decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Gracie missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Zapata tries to roll over but Gracie keeps him under control.

Zapata has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gracie is working away from the top position though.
Zapata is breathing heavily.

Zapata is looking to regain full guard. He's left an arm up in the air though and Gracie has latched onto it... Big trouble! Gracie pivots for an armbar - it's in tight and it Zapata is tapping in no time flat! Great counter grappling there from Gracie!
